Outlander heartthrob Sam Heughan has revealed an exciting new project while supporting a vital charitable cause.
The Scottish actor, famous for his role as Highlander Jamie Fraser in the beloved Starz series, posted a charming selfie on Instagram this week. He was wearing a hand-knitted tiger jumper, which Heughan revealed was a gift from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in support of their Knit for Nature initiative.
Celebrated knitwear designer Ruth Herring has reimagined her iconic patterns from her 1989 publication Knitting Wildlife for the campaign. The WWF is providing these patterns free of charge for anyone wanting to pick up their needles and spotlight endangered species this festive season.
Heughan encourages fans to get involved
Heughan wrote in the caption: “Thank you for the incredible work being done to raise awareness of the challenges tigers face in the wild and for inspiring more people to create something meaningful”, reports the Express.
He went on to encourage supporters to get involved, saying: “If you’d like a jumper like mine, all patterns by designer Ruth Herring @confessions_of_a_yarnaholic are free to download.
“Whether you’re crafting for yourself or someone you love, you can knit for nature this winter.”
The actor wrapped up his post by hinting he might join the cause himself, writing: “Might get my knitting needles out this Xmas..”
Fans of the Outlander star quickly took to Instagram to thank him for his heartwarming charitable post.
One follower commented: “Knitters unite! ! What a great fun gift! !”.
Another supporter gushed: “I love all the support you give to wildlife and nature! ! !” adding multiple heart emojis to their message.
Even actress Elizabeth Hurley weighed in, simply writing: “Adorable.”

He’ll be saying goodbye to the character that has defined his career for more than a decade, alongside co-star Caitriona Balfe, who portrays Jamie’s time-traveling spouse Claire.
