A Florida woman has been arrested after her husband discovered troubling footage involving the family dog while reviewing security-camera recordings inside their home, according to police.

Malia Nummerdor, 38, was charged this week with engaging in sexual contact with an animal. She has disputed the allegation, telling investigators that the footage did not show sexual contact.

The investigation began for an entirely different reason.

Cameras Were Installed to Solve a Missing-Money Mystery

According to the arrest report, Nummerdor’s husband had installed two security cameras inside the home because money had apparently been disappearing from a coin jar.

He told investigators that everyone living in the home knew the cameras were there.

But while reviewing footage captured by a camera in a bedroom, he came across a recording that had nothing to do with the missing money.

Police said the video appeared to show an inappropriate interaction between Nummerdor and the family dog. Rather than describing the footage publicly in detail, investigators relied on the recording as part of their inquiry.

Husband Turns Footage Over to Investigators

After making the discovery, Nummerdor’s husband contacted authorities and provided investigators with images from the recording.

He also gave police access to the laptop containing the footage, allowing officers to review the material themselves.

The discovery eventually led investigators to interview Nummerdor on Tuesday.

Police said she acknowledged that she was the person shown in the recording with the dog but denied that the interaction was sexual, maintaining that she had simply been petting the animal.

Investigators said they found inconsistencies in her explanation and alleged that she could not account for some of the actions visible in the footage.

Arrest Follows Police Interview

Malia Nummerdor, 38, was charged with engaging in sexual contact with with an animal this week.

Nummerdor was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Charlotte County Jail. Records cited in the report show that she faces a charge of engaging in sexual contact with an animal.

The case ultimately emerged from cameras installed for a completely unrelated household concern. What began as an attempt to determine why money was disappearing from a coin jar instead produced footage that prompted the husband to contact authorities and hand over the recording.

Nummerdor has denied the alleged sexual contact, and the accusation against her remains an allegation as the case proceeds.
