FATAL TIGER ATTACK AT YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE PARK: SITE CLOSED AS AUTHORITIES URGE PUBLIC TO HALT VIDEO SPREAD

A man has died following a fatal tiger attack inside Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, South Yorkshire Police confirmed on Saturday afternoon. The catastrophic enclosure breach triggered an immediate site evacuation, with management shutting down the park for the entirety of the weekend.
Unlawful Enclosure Breach and Fatal Confrontation
Emergency responders were alerted at approximately 13:35 BST after witnesses observed the man entering the Amur tiger enclosure. The animal attacked the individual shortly after the breach, inflicting fatal injuries at the scene. Park personnel contained the unharmed animal within the enclosure perimeter as security and medical teams secured the area.

Visitors witnessed a rapid, coordinated emergency protocol. Witness Karmelle Pelham, 39, recounted hearing sounds resembling gunshots as an air ambulance circled overhead, followed by staff deploying a large black tarpaulin across the exhibit view points to shield the site during the orderly evacuation.
Official Statements and Warning Over Online Footage
South Yorkshire Police confirmed family liaison officers are assisting the victim’s relatives while issuing a clear public warning:
“We are aware of videos circulating online and we would encourage people not to share this footage out of respect for the family at this distressing time.”

Prominent political figures responded to the incident. Foreign Secretary and Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband conveyed his deep condolences to the bereaved family while commending the park’s operational staff and emergency personnel. Doncaster East and Isle of Axholme MP Lee Pitcher praised the swift response, noting that specialized support has been made available for witnesses and responders.
Established in 2009, Yorkshire Wildlife Park expanded in 2011 with its dedicated two-acre “Land of the Tigers” reserve, housing endangered Amur tigers—a subspecies with roughly 500 individuals remaining in the wild. The enclosure incorporates an elevated viewing walkway and security fences over the roaming zone. Police and health and safety officials are continuing inquiries into how the enclosure barriers were bypassed.
