Sherlock Holmes has nothing on his teenage sister. After some serious detective work around the UK, “Enola Holmes” stars Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge packed their bags for the third installment of the Netflix film series, out July 1, to film on location in Malta, feeding into both British actors’ passion for travel.

“I think some of the best education is travel,” Brown, who plays the title character, told Travel + Leisure for the video series, Meaningful Places, recounting the most significant destinations in their travels. “I have in my heart a lot of love and respect for different cultures and places because I traveled so much as a child.”

One place that really had an impact on the 22-year-old Stranger Things star is Mexico City. “It’s great restaurants, really good food, really great vibe, great vintage stores,” she said.

Partridge looked fondly on his visit to Rio de Janeiro under unusual circumstances. “I went during Carnival, but it was Covid, so there was no Carnival,” he said. “I think I  sat on the beach eating Pringles when I should have been shaking it up.” Despite that, the 23-year-old star of the upcoming Pride and Prejudice Netflix series, said he “adores” the Brazilian beach city.

In fact, he’s always had a flair for international adventures, in particular a solo trip to Thailand. “I met a lovely fisherman, a really nice guy…and for a week, I was his assistant,” he recounted. “He would take families out and I would swing behind him and catch some fish. Then his wife would cook them in the evening and we’d have dinner together.”

Another core travel memory was discovering a love for skateboarding as a 13-year-old in a Santa Barbara skatepark. “I saw this Adonis-like figure wearing dark brown Dickies. He had his shirt off, he had long flowing hair,” he said, recalling the skater’s ease while cruising around the ramps. “It just looked so effortless, like he was floating, and I thought that looks really, really cool.”

Sure enough, for the next five years, he found himself honed in on the sport, with his proudest accomplishment happening much closer to home on a set of stairs in London known as the South Bank Seven. “I made it my goal to ollie down the South Bank Seven—and I did it!” he exclaimed, noting he has the momentous occasion on video.

When it comes to traveling for work, Partridge thinks fondly of Italy, having shot “Jay Kelly,” Disclaimer, and Medici, on location in Tuscany. “It’s great two-hour long lunch, with prosciutto and everything you can imagine—the food is good,” he said.

Of course, with their success, traveling comes naturally with unexpected fan reactions. Brown first got recognized in Palm Springs, while Partridge did in London’s Victoria Station, the day that the first “Enola Holmes” came out, which he thought was “cool” and a “nice encounter.”

But both have been on the other side too. Brown recalled being in Vancouver when she was about eight years old and fangirling out over Zendaya. “I loved Shake It Up,” she said, breaking out into the theme song. “I saw her in a hotel and I went up to her, and I asked for a picture…she was so nice. I feel like she was like a really big role model for me!”

Partridge’s greatest star encounter is a bit more mysterious. “I met Jake Gyllenhaal in a sauna in Milan, and that is all I will say on the matter!”
