Bailey Zimmerman has broken his silence as he faces criminal charges for damaging a hotel room in New Mexico.

On Tuesday, June 23, the country star shared a statement with PEOPLE addressing the cancellation of his show at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque on May 27 shortly before it was set to begin, which he claimed was allegedly due to illness. The show cancellation came one day before housekeeping found more than $16,000 worth of damage to his hotel room.

“To the Pueblo of Sandia and my fans: I want to address the events surrounding my canceled show in New Mexico in May and the reports that have followed,” Zimmerman, 26, began the statement. “First things first, I want to apologize to the Pueblo of Sandia and to everyone at Sandia Resort & Casino.  I never meant for any of this to come across as disrespectful.”

He added, “I am deeply sorry for my actions that transpired. I respect your community and the hospitality and appreciate the opportunity that was given to me to perform on Native Land. I take full accountability for everything that happened and I am sorry to anyone who feels hurt or disrespected.”

Zimmerman then directed his attention to fans who bought tickets to his show.

“I am so sorry, you deserved better from me. I understand that being a musician comes with big responsibilities, both on and off stage, and I know that I fell short that day. I am reflecting on the disappointment and concern that I caused,” he said.

Zimmerman concluded, “I am taking this legal matter seriously. I am committed to doing the work necessary to learn and grow.  Thank you to my fans for holding me accountable and for understanding that I am human.  I do not take your support for granted.”

The “Rock and a Hard Place” singer’s statement comes just a few days after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Thursday, June 18 for the aforementioned hotel room damage.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, June 22, Zimmerman is currently facing a fourth-degree felony for criminal damage to property over $1,000 and a misdemeanor for falsely obtaining services.

Per an affidavit for the arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE, the time leading up to Zimmerman’s scheduled concert was chaotic, as he “appeared to be exhibiting signs of intoxication” while interacting with staff members and during sound check.

At the time, a spokesperson for Zimmerman did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to the affidavit, Zimmerman allegedly “stumbled onto the stage” of the venue at 4:30 p.m. on May 27, took a guitar and hit it on the ground “before tripping over the stage and falling backward.”

Additionally, he allegedly threw two cymbals on the stage, kicked a drum set, pushed a guitarist and threw a microphone on the ground before “angrily” leaving the stage.

Zimmerman “spit toward a Sandia security officer standing nearby” as he went to the SUV waiting for him and then initially refused to get in, because the car was white and not black, the affidavit claimed.

Per the affidavit, he returned to the resort from sound check with blood visible on his left knee, and “was seen stumbling down the hallway toward his room.”

Then, Zimmerman canceled the concert that was scheduled for that night.

“I have not been feeling well and have tried to power through, but I’m not able to give you all the show you deserve,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

He continued, “I hate letting y’all down and was really looking forward to these shows, but I gotta take care of myself so I can get back out there stronger.”

Zimmerman noted he would be rescheduling the shows slated for May 27 and May 30.

Zimmerman was allegedly given a deadline to leave the property, but became “disorderly,” prompting a call to the Sandia Police. However, he eventually left, per the affidavit.

On May 28, the following morning, housekeeping discovered Zimmerman’s room had damage worth more than $16,000, including a broken phone, damaged TV, chairs and coffee table, two missing chairs and a hole in the wall. Allegedly, Zimmerman charged $400 in alcohol to the room and did not pay his bill.

Per the resort, a warrant for his arrest was issued after repeated failed attempts to contact Zimmerman.

Zimmerman apologized to fans back in January 2025 after he performed drunk at the Crash My Playa music festival.

“I got up on stage, and I was too drunk to play. And I sang awful, I played awful,” he said in a video. “Nobody got the show that they wanted or paid for. And I’m disappointed in myself.”

He added in the caption that he “let myself down” and was “so sorry to everybody,” but vowed to “be better.”

Zimmerman’s next scheduled concert is on Thursday, June 25 in Ashland, Neb.
