After his wife is killed in a hit-and-run, an old-school Scotland Yard veteran detective is transferred to the North East of England as heâs determined to avenge his wife whose death is linked to a criminal he pursued.

While working on this personal mission, the detective also has his day job to contend with, investigating complex crimes in the north.

Set in the 1960s and 1970s around Newcastle, Northumberland and County Durham, Inspector George Gently ran for 10 years on BBC One before it reached its conclusion in 2017.

They are joined by other familiar faces including The Pass actress Lisa McGrillis, Emmerdaleâs Tom Hutch and Being Human actress Annabel Scholey.
