THIS is the shocking moment a cliff jump goes horribly wrong as a teenage boy smashes into rocks before hitting the water.
Harrowing footage shows a teenager leaping off cliffs in San Diego as a crowd of spectators watch from a distance.
Instead of a smooth dive, the boy slams into the rocks before flipping into the water.
Several loud cries can be heard as the thrillseeker bounces off the rocks.
The teenager’s friend quickly jumps in and both boys come to the surface.
A further six people jumped in before authorities were called to the scene at around 4.30pm.
The stricken teenager was carefully pulled from the water using a technical rescue rig system.
The boy was then rushed to hospital where his condition remains unknown.
He was reportedly conscious and breathing when he was taken to hospital.
The city’s Municipal Code prohibits jumping or diving into the Pacific Ocean or Mission Bay from natural or human-made points higher than five feet above the water.
Local official Candance Hadley told NBC 7: “We want locals and visitors to enjoy San Diego’s coastline safely.
“Please stay back from cliff edges, follow all posted warnings and never jump from cliffs or other elevated areas into the water.”
Although there are repeated warnings, the spot near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard remains extremely popular for cliff divers.
People regularly jump from an arch above the crashing waves, despite the threat of fines and arrests.
Local resident Rae-Kwon Goldsmith told CBS8: “This is not a place for people who have never jumped.”
This comes after a 15-year-old boy died in 2019 after jumping at the same spot.
According to one report, there was an average of five deaths and injuries annually between 2005 and 2017.
The boy has not been publicly identified at this time.
