The Hardacres is officially returning for a second series, with Channel 5 confirming the premiere date

Fans of The Hardacres no longer have to wait much longer for the next chapter of the family saga.

Channel 5 has confirmed that the popular period drama will return for its second series on May 14, following the success of its first run in 2024.

Adapted from the novel series by C. L. Skelton, the rags-to-riches drama follows a working-class Yorkshire family whose lives are transformed as they rise from poverty to extraordinary wealth.

The series is set in the 1890s and stars Claire Cooper, Liam McMahon, Julie Graham, Adam Little, Shannon Lavelle and Zak Ford-Williams.

Channel 5 teased the show’s return on Instagram with an image of the cast and the message: “Getting rich was just the beginning.”

The broadcaster added: “One chapter ends. A new one begins.”

The second series will introduce several new faces, including Michele Dotrice, Niall McNamee and Edward Mitchell.

According to the synopsis, the story resumes in 1895 as the Hardacre family faces another period of dramatic change.

Modernity is beginning to reshape life at Hardacre Hall, with electricity arriving as relationships and loyalties within the family also start to shift.

New opportunities bring new dangers

Mary and Sam are embracing the opportunities that come with their newfound wealth, but their children are beginning to develop ambitions and identities of their own.

Mary takes up the cause of adult education for dock workers, while Sam focuses on expanding the family business as a recession begins to loom.

At the same time, Sam is uncertain whether Joe is ready to eventually take over the business. Determined to prove himself, Joe makes a series of impulsive decisions that could put his future at risk.

Elsewhere, Liza is recovering from romantic disappointment when an unexpected encounter with a handsome stranger changes the course of her life.

Harry’s plans to leave school are also altered after he meets an inspiring new tutor, while Ma develops an unexpected bond of her own.

As some relationships grow stronger, others begin to fracture.

The biggest threat, however, arrives with Lady Imelda Hansen, who comes to the Fitzherberts’ home with a dangerous agenda. Her arrival forces the Hardacres to put their differences aside as they face the possibility of losing everything they have built.
