The Today show’s weekend family just grew by one.

Longtime NBC personality and former TRL host Carson Daly was named the program’s Saturday co-anchor, as announced Thursday on the air by Savannah Guthrie.

“If you’e been watching Saturday Today, you may have seen this dynamic duo at the desk together,” Guthrie said during Thursday’s live broadcast, referencing Daly’s fill-in gigs alongside Laura Jarrett since September.

Guthrie then announced that “Carson Daly is now the official co-anchor” of the Saturday edition, while their colleagues celebrated by raising a glass of Guinness on set. He replaces Peter Alexander, who departed the network after 22 years for MS NOW.

“You know how much I love you, you’re like a brother to me,” Guthrie told Daly, before comparing him to salt and pepper because “he makes everything taste better.”

Daly, 53, said he’s “very lucky to have had a lot of TV gigs, but this one is very special.”

“At my age and at my stage in my career, to have an opportunity to come in and sit next to Laura and to learn and to get better at my job, to be the best broadcaster I can, is not something I take lightly,” he finished.

Daly first joined Today as a social media correspondent in 2013 before becoming a regular cohost. He previously hosted his late-night show Last Call With Carson Daly on the network from 2002-2019.

Prior to that, Daly was best known for his work as the original host of TRL, MTV’s popular music video countdown show that ran from 1998-2008. Daly departed in 2003.

Entertainment Weekly recently exclusively learned that Daly returned to his former MTV set to host a TRL anniversary special for the Roku network, which filmed last month in New York City.

Daly’s Saturday Today gig begins Nov. 7 alongside Jarrett, Joe Fryer, and meteorologist Angie Lassman.
