A devastated family has paid tribute to a “beautiful and loving” mother who died after a car crashed into a bus stop in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Danielle Sharpe, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on September 11.

Northamptonshire Police said a black Vauxhall Insignia crashed into the bus stop on Willow Brook Road at around 7.30am.

A 55-year-old man from Corby was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

‘We are just beyond heartbroken’

Danielle’s family described her as a much-loved mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister and aunt, saying they were struggling to comprehend her sudden death.

In a heartbreaking statement, they said: “Danielle was such a beautiful and loving mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister and aunty and was loved by so many.

“We are just beyond heartbroken and cannot believe that she has gone.”

The family said Danielle had left a “remarkable stamp” on the world during her short life and that the loss had left them unable to put their grief into words.

“We are so thankful for everybody’s love and support during this difficult time,” they said, while asking for privacy as they begin to come to terms with what happened.

They also urged people not to speculate about the circumstances of the crash on social media, stressing that the police investigation should be allowed to continue.

Car ‘left its intended path’

According to Northamptonshire Police, the Vauxhall was travelling along Willow Brook Road before apparently attempting to turn left into Fotheringhay Road.

The vehicle then “left its intended path” and collided with the bus stop where Danielle was waiting.

A teenage boy was also injured in the crash, although his injuries were described as minor.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fatal collision.

Officers have specifically appealed to motorists who may have captured the incident or the moments leading up to it on dashcam.

A police spokesperson said detectives “would still like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage which captured any part of the collision.”

Investigators are asking anyone with potentially relevant footage or information to come forward as they work to establish exactly what happened in the moments before Danielle was killed.

For her family, however, the focus remains on remembering a woman they say was deeply loved by those around her and whose loss has left them “beyond heartbroken.”
