Alysa Liu is in the spotlight at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Already a gold medal champion in the team event, she’s now competing for an individual medal while representing the United States of America in women’s figure skating.

Appearing in the 2026 Olympic Games was not on Liu’s Bingo card just a few years ago. In fact, she retired from skating after the 2022 Olympics, citing a desire for a normal teenage life. She came out of retirement in 2024 after reconnecting with the sport.

For the most part, Liu keeps her personal life out of the public eye. In fact, in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, she was asked about dating and admitted, “This is, like, the first time I’ve talked about this.”

Is Alysa Liu in a relationship?

No, Liu is not in a relationship. Ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the 20-year-old confirmed to Cosmo that she is not dating anyone and said she “loves being single.”

Liu added, “I really do. I see myself being single for a long time. Especially right now, I choose friendships over relationships any day.”

Liu explained why she’s chosen to be single. “That’s a whole other thing that I’m not feeling right now,” she shared. “I have so much love in my life already, and I have so many amazing people, I just haven’t felt the need to look for more or look elsewhere. I really love myself, and my standards are quite high, too.”

Plus, of course, her busy schedule as an Olympic athlete doesn’t give her much free time. “My schedule, especially since starting to skate again, is pretty hectic,” Liu added. “If I were to date someone, we’d each have to make a ton of sacrifices. It’s just not worth it at this point to build something.”

However, she’s open to a relationship when the timing is right. “I think when it comes, it will,” Liu said.
