“Heartbroken” true crime drama fans haven’t been able to stop binge-watching this show.

This “brilliant” true crime drama with stars from Game of Thrones and The White Lotus has arrived on ITVX.

The Staircase revolves around the devastating story of Kathleen Peterson who was found dead at the bottom of the stairs at her home in North Carolina with her husband, crime writer Michael Peterson, quickly suspected of murder.

The eight-part series, which was originally released on HBO and Sky Atlantic back in 2022, follows Michael’s story, including the murder trial which left the public as well as his loved ones, conflicted over the truth.

IMdB fans have labelled it as “pure piece of art”, with a user stating that it’s “one of the best things I’ve personally ever watched”.

Others hailed it as “haunting and disturbing” as someone else shared: “I binged this entire series in one 12 hour shift.

“I found everyone’s acting to be pretty damn good. So good in fact that the scenes of Kathleen’s death were almost too hard for me to watch. And I’m a nurse.”

Meanwhile, another remarked: “I had to remind myself to take a breath.

“The emotion and acting was superb. Colin Firth was brilliant. The writers, producers did a great job. I didn’t want to stop watching.”

But IMdB has also warned fans that it contains “severe” sexual content, as well as “severe” scenes of violence and gore.

What makes The Staircase even more of an umissable watch is its star-studded cast.

Leading the cast as Michael Peterson is actor Coin Firth, famed for his roles in Pride and Prejudice, The King’s Speech and Love Actually, to name a few.

Hereditary actress Toni Collette is behind his late wife Kathleen who features in a number of flashback scenes.

They are joined by other big names like The White Lotus actor and Terminator legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger and Game of Thrones icon Sophie Turner.
