Meghan Markle Reportedly Plans to Rekindle UK Charity Work as Sussexes Keep Low Profile

Meghan Markle is reportedly preparing to reconnect with charities in Britain as she settles into life in the UK with Prince Harry and their two children — but for now, the couple are keeping a remarkably low profile.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, is understood to be looking at ways to resume her involvement with causes she previously supported while also considering new organisations she could champion.

For the moment, however, family life is taking priority. Harry and Meghan are said to be focused on getting Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, settled into their new home and ready for the start of school.

Friends reportedly say the couple have been making efforts to avoid being seen as they adjust to their new surroundings.

Meghan wants to reconnect with causes close to her

A source close to Meghan said she is keen to rebuild relationships in Britain after spending several years living in the United States.

The Duchess is reportedly considering how she can once again support causes she previously worked with, while also exploring opportunities to become involved with new charities.

“She is thinking about plans for how she can get more involved and support the causes she was supporting and was passionate about again, and new causes too. She wants to pick up with a lot of people,” the source said.

One organisation expected to remain important to Meghan is Smart Works, which supports unemployed and vulnerable women by providing clothing, interview preparation and networking opportunities.

Meghan became involved with the charity after marrying Harry in 2018 and continued supporting it after the couple stepped down as working royals.

Smart Works could become a renewed focus

In 2019, Meghan joined forces with fashion brands including Jigsaw and John Lewis to create a capsule collection designed to support Smart Works.

At the time, she spoke about the importance of women supporting and encouraging one another.

“As women, it is 100 per cent our responsibility, I think, to support and uplift each other, to champion each other as we aim to succeed, to not set each other up for failure.”

The source suggested that Meghan remains strongly committed to the organisation and could look at becoming more directly involved now that she is back in Britain.

“Smart Works is a cause she was and remains deeply passionate about and she may well look to rekindle that relationship, where she can get back involved in a more meaningful way now that she’s back here,” the source said.

However, Meghan’s return to the UK does not mean she is abandoning the work and causes she has continued supporting in Los Angeles.

“There are still things she is working on back in Los Angeles that she is committed to – she is no less committed to her work and causes there, because she is here,” the source added.

Harry and Meghan reportedly shopping in private

Despite the interest surrounding their return, the Sussexes are said to be concentrating on ordinary family preparations rather than public appearances.

According to friends, they are still unpacking, recovering from jet lag and preparing Archie and Lilibet for school.

One source told The Sunday Times that the couple have even been trying to shop for school essentials without attracting attention.

“They’re buying school uniform and trying to buy pencil cases without being spotted. They wanted to come back, they’re excited about being back and everything that’s to come.”

The family have also reportedly asked for Archie and Lilibet’s privacy to be respected while the children adjust to their new life in Britain.

Meghan has yet to make a public appearance

Meghan has not yet made a public appearance in the UK since returning.

Before the move, her last widely noted public appearance in Britain was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral four years ago.

That may change once the family has settled in. The Sunday Times reported that Meghan is expected to be seen publicly again as she resumes charity-related activities, with coverage of those engagements also likely to follow.

The Sussexes are also reportedly working towards a new “fair” arrangement for media coverage of their public appearances after withdrawing from the Royal rota system in 2020.

Harry expected to return to charity work first

Harry is expected to resume his public-facing charitable work sooner than Meghan.

The Duke of Sussex is due to attend this month’s annual WellChild Awards and is expected to undertake additional engagements in Britain.

There has also been speculation that Harry could complete a skydive in support of military charities.

The possibility follows a promise he reportedly made to 102-year-old veteran Ed Marshall during a visit to Toronto, Canada, last November.

Acting work could also be on Meghan’s horizon

Alongside her charitable interests, Meghan could have further professional projects in the entertainment industry.

The Duchess is reportedly still in talks over a potential role in The Gentlemen, with preparations continuing for the show’s third series.

For now, though, her immediate focus appears to be her family’s transition back to Britain.

After years in California, Harry and Meghan are gradually establishing a new routine in the UK — while Meghan looks to rebuild some of the charitable connections she developed during her earlier years as a member of the Royal Family.
