Meghan Markle Reportedly Set for Central Role in Prince Harry’s Diana Film — With Claims Prince William Is Furious

Prince Harry is reportedly planning a television film about his late mother, Princess Diana, ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death — and Meghan Markle is now said to have a much bigger role than originally expected.
According to a Substack post by Rob Shuter, Meghan was initially described as a supporter working behind the scenes. The latest claim, however, is that the Duchess of Sussex could become the voice of the project and a central figure in the film.
The report has also made a striking claim about Prince William’s reaction.
Meghan’s reported role goes beyond a cameo
Harry is said to be developing the project as a way of marking Diana’s legacy, with plans to involve people who knew her, including friends and family.
The initial reports suggested Meghan would remain largely behind the camera. That has now reportedly changed.
A production insider quoted by Rob Shuter claimed Meghan would “become the voice of Diana’s story” and play a central role in the film.
The source further suggested that her contribution would be far more substantial than a brief appearance.
“Harry may be the son,” the insider said, while claiming Meghan would be “the voice viewers hear.”
The reported concept would place Harry’s personal connection to Diana at the heart of the project, while giving Meghan a prominent role in telling her story.
However, there has been no official confirmation of the reported film or Meghan’s involvement. Express.co.uk has approached representatives for Harry and Meghan for comment.
Report claims William is unhappy with the idea
The proposal has reportedly caused concern for Prince William, according to a source cited by Rob Shuter.
The source claimed William feels strongly about his mother’s legacy and would find Harry producing his own film difficult enough, but Meghan taking on the role of narrator would be particularly troubling.
The report quoted the source as saying: “William believes Diana’s legacy belongs to him.”
The same source claimed William viewed Harry making a film as one matter, while Meghan becoming the person telling Diana’s story was “something else entirely.”
These claims have not been independently confirmed.
Sussexes reportedly see parallels with Diana

According to the Substack report, Harry and Meghan are said to believe there are similarities between Diana’s difficult relationship with the palace and press and their own experiences as members of the Royal Family.
That perspective could form part of the thinking behind the reported project, although details about its development, format and eventual release remain unclear.
The timing would be significant, however, with 2027 marking 30 years since Diana died.
Harry and Meghan’s UK return adds another layer

The reports about the film come only weeks after Harry and Meghan returned to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The couple are reportedly living in a £12 million mansion near the Cotswolds, with Archie and Lilibet now attending school there.
Their return has already generated considerable attention, particularly because the location of their private home and the children’s school has been closely guarded.
The family’s reported UK base is also relatively close to Highgrove, where King Charles lives.
According to claims reported by GB News, Meghan was disappointed that there was no obvious welcome from the King after their arrival.
A source told the outlet that she had not expected anything formal, but would have appreciated some indication from Charles that he was pleased to have his son and grandchildren back in Britain.
Charles and Queen Camilla were travelling to Scotland for a series of royal engagements shortly after Harry and Meghan arrived.
For now, the reported Diana film remains just that — a report rather than a confirmed royal project. But with the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaching, any decision by Harry to tell his mother’s story is likely to attract intense attention, particularly if Meghan is ultimately given the prominent role now being claimed.
