Mystery Deepens Over Missing Soldier Liam Potts As Police Probe Disturbance, Bridge Crash And River Disappearance
A desperate search is under way for a serving soldier who vanished after a night out with friends — but police are also investigating a disturbance and a separate “car ramming” incident that happened shortly before he disappeared.

Liam Potts, 22, was last seen at around 12.20am on Saturday, August 15, after heading towards Wylam from Wylam Bridge in Northumberland.
CCTV captured Liam walking in the area shortly before his disappearance. Police believe he may have entered the River Tyne, prompting an urgent search involving officers and mountain rescue teams along the riverbanks and surrounding area.
But what happened in the moments before Liam disappeared remains unclear.
POLICE PROBE DISTURBANCE AND BRIDGE CRASH
Northumbria Police confirmed that, before Liam’s last known sighting, officers received a report of a disturbance at a nearby property.

A collision then occurred on Wylam Bridge involving a vehicle and a group of pedestrians.
A man and woman, both in their 20s, suffered serious injuries, although police said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Two people reportedly fled from the vehicle before officers arrived.
Police subsequently arrested two men, aged 22 and 23, in connection with the incident. Both have since been released on bail while further enquiries continue.
Investigators have stressed that Liam was on the bridge when the collision happened, but he was not inside the vehicle and there is currently no indication that he was injured in the crash.
He left the area afterwards.
And that is where the mystery deepens.
LIAM’S DISAPPEARANCE REMAINS UNEXPLAINED
Police believe Liam may have entered the River Tyne, but officers have not provided a timeframe for how long the search will continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Robson said the search was ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation while investigators worked to establish what happened.
Liam’s family has been informed and is being supported by officers as concern continues to grow.
The missing soldier is described as white, around 6ft 3ins tall and of medium build, with dark hair and tattoos covering his right arm.
At the time he was last seen, he was wearing black joggers, black Nike trainers and a black T-shirt featuring white text and a diamond logo on the back, along with a gold chain.
A SOLDIER WITH A DISTINGUISHED ROLE

Liam serves with the Coldstream Guards and completed his military training at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.

He also took part in the funeral procession for Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Now, specialist mountain rescue teams and police officers continue searching the River Tyne and surrounding area.
Investigators are working to piece together the sequence of events surrounding the disturbance, the bridge collision and Liam’s final movements.
For now, police say their investigation remains in its early stages.
Liam was seen on the bridge. A crash happened. A disturbance had already been reported nearby. Then he disappeared.
What happened in those crucial moments remains unanswered.
Anyone with information about Liam’s whereabouts or the events surrounding his disappearance is being urged to contact police.
