Prince Harry Risks Further Alienating Prince William Over Rumoured Princess Diana Documentary: ‘Time to Stop’

The deep-seated estrangement between Prince William and Prince Harry faces fresh turmoil following revelations that the Duke of Sussex is exploring a high-profile television documentary commemorating the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
Reporting from The Telegraph revealed that Harry is laying groundwork to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s tragic passing in August 2027. The Duke has reportedly reached out to several of Diana’s closest confidants and maternal relatives to gauge their interest in participating. An insider close to the Duke affirmed that Harry has “discussed a number of possible projects to mark the 30th anniversary,” though stressing that “nothing has been finalised or confirmed as he weighs the most meaningful tribute.”
The initiative drew sharp scrutiny on the debut episode of the Daily Express video podcast Royals Unscripted. Royal commentator Carole Malone warned that the endeavor would severely backfire against Harry’s public standing:
“It would not be a good look. If a Harry-led programme materialises, it may start out as a tribute, but it would end up being about him—about his gripes regarding his mother and how she was treated. William has put it to rest, and he’s getting on with his life. But Harry will not let anything rest where his mother’s concerned. Even if all proceeds go to charity, people will still be saying: ‘Why can’t you move on? Stop. Stop talking about your family.'”
Adding institutional context, Royal Editor Emily Ferguson observed that the project represents a direct defiance of Prince William’s express boundary. Following their joint participation in landmark 2017 documentaries marking the 20th anniversary, the Prince of Wales famously declared that neither brother would ever speak so publicly or vulnerably about Diana’s death again.
By reviving commercial retrospectives around their mother’s life, Harry is perceived to be going “completely against William,” who has resolved to mark the 2027 milestone strictly in private with his wife and children without fanfare.

While the Duke of Sussex recently re-established his primary domestic residence in the UK and conducted a handful of cordial visits with King Charles III amid his father’s cancer treatment, fraternal relations remain at total standstill. The brothers have had effectively zero contact in recent years and have not been seen in the same room since the August 2024 funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes, leaving little hope for rapprochement if Diana’s legacy becomes another flashpoint of commercial contention.
