Prince Harry Reportedly Secures Lucrative Invictus Games Sponsorship from Netflix Rival Amazon with Appearance Condition for Meghan
Prince Harry is poised to finalize a major financial partnership with tech and streaming behemoth Amazon to back the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, scheduled to take place in the UK next July. Intriguingly, the commercial pact with Netflix’s chief rival reportedly involves the expectation that Meghan Markle will make a formal public appearance alongside the Duke during the high-profile sporting showcase.
Founded by Harry in 2014 during his tenure as a senior working royal, the Invictus Games offers adaptive sports competition to support the recovery of wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans. The forthcoming Birmingham edition, running from July 10 to 17 next year, is slated to welcome approximately 550 competitors and their families from 25 participating nations to compete across 12 disciplines. However, organizing an international tournament of this scale has required an urgent £20 million cash injection to meet mounting operational expenses.
Amazon’s proactive entry fills a critical void left by aerospace giant Boeing, which had served as a primary sponsor but declined to renew its funding commitment following the 2024 games due to substantial budget requirements.
A source familiar with negotiations remarked:
“The deal would be a shot in the arm for Invictus and Harry… Amazon wanted to get involved. They already do a lot to back veterans, including employment programmes. The games are a big undertaking and expensive. And it’s interesting Amazon are Netflix’s big rival.”
A spokesperson for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 expressed optimism regarding the event’s financial groundwork, confirming that operational costs are sustained through a combination of UK Government underwriting, strategic corporate sponsorships, and charitable donations to ensure a successful multi-sport event next summer.
