Lone Juror in Lindsay Clancy Mistrial Breaks Silence After Backlash Over His Refusal to Acquit

The lone juror whose vote prevented a unanimous verdict in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial is speaking publicly for the first time, pushing back against claims that he entered deliberations uncertain about the evidence and then refused to reconsider his position.

Michael P. Desronvil, 48, said he never doubted his conclusion that Clancy should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children. His comments come after the six-week trial ended in a mistrial and his identity became the focus of intense public scrutiny.

Desronvil Disputes Fellow Jurors’ Account

Desronvil rejected suggestions that he had expressed doubts during deliberations.

“I didn’t have any doubts,” he said, explaining that when he attempted to discuss different possible theories, he felt other jurors interpreted those discussions as uncertainty.

Desronvil said the physical evidence, witness testimony and prosecution’s case convinced him that Clancy understood and planned her actions.

His position ultimately separated him from the other 11 jurors, who were prepared to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. The disagreement prevented the jury from reaching the unanimous decision required to resolve the case.

Questions Swirled Around His Religious Beliefs

“Everyone thinks I’m Michael, I’m not Michael,” Desronvil’s brother said — adding that the family was completely blindsided by the attention, because nobody had talked to Desronvil since the alleged 2025 nephew attack.

After the mistrial, attention turned to Desronvil’s background, including his Catholic faith. Because the concept of “mortal sin” surrounding murder and suicide had been mentioned during the trial, some speculated that religion influenced his decision.

His brother rejected that explanation, saying he did not believe religion had anything to do with Desronvil’s position.

Desronvil himself instead pointed directly to the evidence presented in court as the reason for his vote.

His Personal History Became Part of the Story

The scrutiny intensified after Desronvil was publicly identified. Reports then resurfaced allegations involving domestic violence from his past.

He was arrested in connection with an alleged 2021 incident involving his then-wife. Those charges were later dismissed. In a separate 2025 case, he was accused of assaulting his nephew, resulting in a restraining order that remained active while he served on the Clancy jury.

Those revelations prompted questions about how his background was addressed during jury selection, although the article does not establish that he violated jury-selection rules.

Meanwhile, the extraordinary attention surrounding the jury prompted Judge William Sullivan to block the public release of jurors’ names. By then, however, Desronvil’s identity had already become public, and a local mechanic said Desronvil and his new wife had left the area temporarily as they attempted to escape the media frenzy.
