Vince Gill paid special tribute to his dear friend, Dolly Parton.

During a performance at Kansas City’s Midland Theatre on Thursday (August 27), the country music singer paid an emotional tribute to Dolly just two days after her death at age 80.

Vince told the audience that he and his family were “crushed” by the news of Dolly’s passing before revealing that he would perform “I Will Always Love You” in her honor.

The song held special meaning for Vince and Dolly, who recorded a duet version together in 1995. As Vince performed the iconic song, he became visibly emotional at several moments, struggling to hold back tears.

Vince Gil Remembers Dolly Parton

Dolly passed away on Tuesday (August 25) after a brief battle with cancer. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, first announced her death in a video shared on her Instagram account.

Shortly after news broke, Vince first honored Dolly in a heartfelt Instagram tribute, sharing a clip from their memorable 1995 CMA Awards performance of “I Will Always Love You.”

“We are all crushed here at our house,” he wrote in the caption. “One of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard was when Dolly and I sang that last note of ‘I Will Always Love You’ the year we performed it on the CMA Awards.”
