A man wearing a Chucky doll mask allegedly targeted six people at random in Philadelphia — and chillingly asked a female jogger if she was ready to die, police have revealed.
The masked suspect – thought to be a black man between 16 and 20 – terrorized people going about their business within a crazed 15 minute window early Wednesday morning and remains at large.
The young man went into a Dunkin Donuts store wearing the “distinctive, Chucky doll Halloween-style face mask” just after 5:20 a.m. but was refused service because he was being erratic, Jason Smith, the Philadelphia Police Captain, told reporters at a presser Monday.
He then allegedly then started running up to people at nearby locations — all while filming, seemingly for his sick pleasure.
The masked individual allegedly uttered something to a man wearing a reflective vest before chasing him.
He then allegedly harassed a female jogger, who later reported him to cops.
“He’s holding his cell phone up in front of her, at which time he asks her ‘Are you ready to die?’” Smith said, describing the woman’s encounter.
“[She] appears startled, at which time the male asks her again, ‘Are you ready to die?’ Clearly she’s not ready to die, so she takes off,” the cop added, revealing she injured her leg trying to flee and was “screaming for help.”
The masked man is facing charges of terroristic threats, harassment, assault, reckless endangerment and intimidation, Smith said.
The cop revealed the fiend will also face a weapons charge as his right arm was behind his back when he issued the threat to the jogger. This was despite the fact there was no weapon in surveillance video from the scene.
Jameka, a witness, said she tried to warn the jogger who was being bugged.
“I started to wave at her from across the intersection and say, ‘Hey there’s someone behind you, look behind you,’” she told WPVI.
Jameka said she fronted the masked man and kicked him in the chest.
“He just seemed so disoriented about what his goals actually were. I had bags; he wasn’t reaching for those,” she said.
“It didn’t seem like he had a clear goal to like actually get in La Colombe [a coffee shop] to do anything, so I was like OK, well, let’s see if you can fight, and he couldn’t.”
A manhunt is underway, with Smith saying, “Trust me when I tell you this… we’re not going to do our darnedest to try and locate this individual? You bet we are.”
“It’s really unsettling just trying to get to work and have a kid like this actively terrorizing women,” coffee shop worker Kate Egan said.
“I really hope he is caught.”
