The Hardacres returned to Channel 5 in May and is set to conclude with the season 2 finale this week.

The popular period drama, based on the novel series by C L Skelton and from the team behind All Creatures Great and Small, follows the Hardacre family, including Mary Hardacre, played by Claire Cooper, and Sam Hardacre, played by Liam McMahon.

Season two also saw Michele Dotrice join the cast as Lady Imelda Hansen, while Niall McNamee joined as Edward Blackwood, and Edward Mitchell as Arthur Lewis.

Set in 1980s Yorkshire, the second season has followed Mary and Sam’s rise from poverty to privilege and has gone down a storm with fans.

So much so that Channel 5 viewers are already calling for a third season, of which is yet to be announced.

Taking to social media, one fan asked the broadcaster: “Loving this drama don’t want it to end. Love this show. Hope we don’t have to wait as long for series 3?”

While a second echoed: “Really hope there’s going to be a third series,” and another said: “Excellent series, hope the third comes out soon.”

“I couldn’t wait for next week,” said a fourth, before adding: “I watched the final episode on the 5 app. Hope there is a third series at some point.”

Channel 5 has yet to announce if there will be a third season. However, the second series was only confirmed by Channel 5 in July 2025, after the first season aired in October 2024.

The final episode of season two will air on Thursday, June 18, on Channel 5. It will see Sam and Mary learn that Ma has risked the house on a bet.

Ma remains tight-lipped as Imelda makes her intentions clear, revealing a chilling side and the extent of her deceit and her true feelings towards the Hardacres. When Imelda moves to claim her prize, events take an unexpected turn.

The Hardacres airs Thursday, June 18 at 9pm on Channel 5.
