Prince George Joins Royal Family for Balmoral Church Service Ahead of Eton College Boarding School Milestone

During the British royal family’s annual summer retreat in the Scottish Highlands, 13-year-old Prince George made one of his final public family appearances before embarking on a major educational milestone: beginning boarding school at Eton College this September.

George was photographed on Sunday, August 23, traveling to a traditional service at Crathie Kirk alongside his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

Balmoral Tradition Meets a New Chapter

The 50,000-acre Balmoral estate has served as an intimate sanctuary for the royal family since Queen Victoria’s reign, filled with private outdoor picnics, fishing, and equestrian activities:

• Family Appearance: Dressed sharply in a suit and tie, the young prince rode in the back of a vehicle driven by his father through the Scottish estate.

• Following Royal Footsteps: Enrolling at Eton marks a historic continuation of royal family tradition, following the educational path of his father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry, both of whom resided at Manor House during their years at the historic 1440-founded institution.

Stepping into House Traditions

Beginning his journey in Eton’s “F Block” (Year 9), Prince George will join one of the campus’s 25 residential boarding houses:

• The “Colours Test”: One of George’s immediate orientation hurdles will be the traditional quiz challenging new entrants to memorize official house colors and historic architectural landmarks across the campus.
