Three AGT Quarterfinal Night One Acts Advance to the Semifinals
The first live results show of America’s Got Talent Season 21 has delivered its first batch of semifinalists.
Following the opening night of Quarterfinal performances on August 18, viewers voted to determine which contestants would continue in the competition. Of the 10 acts eligible for the public vote, three secured spots in the Semifinals.
The acts moving forward are:
- Olivia Befus — dog trainer
- Royal Lasers — laser performance act
- Luke Taleno — rapper
Meanwhile, Hundred Fingers had already secured a place in the Finals after Howie Mandel awarded the magic group his Live Golden Buzzer, allowing them to bypass the Semifinals entirely.
Who was eliminated?
Seven acts from the first Quarterfinal night were eliminated:
- James & Marina
- CommUNITY ATL
- Ashford Sanders
- Brook Lynn
- Sando
- Jesse White Tumbling Team
- Cris Sosa

The results also revisited one of the biggest moments from the previous night’s show: Simon Cowell’s decision to hit the red buzzer during James & Marina’s mentalist performance.
Cowell admitted that after watching the episode back on television, he believed he had made the wrong call and said he shouldn’t have used the buzzer on the duo.
Among the five acts initially placed in the Top 5, Olivia Befus, Luke Taleno, Royal Lasers, Cris Sosa and the Jesse White Tumbling Team, only three could ultimately advance. The public vote sent Olivia, Luke and Royal Lasers through.
The competition continues
There are still three more weeks of Quarterfinals remaining. By the end of the Quarterfinal stage, another nine acts are expected to join the Semifinals, while three additional Live Golden Buzzer recipients will go directly to the Finals.
Important for your AGT coverage: this article is not a duplicate of the Nene Royal story or the Simon Cowell/James & Marina story you pasted earlier. However, it directly follows the same August 18 AGT Live Shows episode covered in the Simon Cowell article. It adds the results that the earlier article did not contain.
And notably, Nene Royal has not performed yet — her Quarterfinal performance is scheduled for August 25, according to the Bangkok Post article you pasted.
