King Charles Was Told About Harry and Meghan’s U.K. Return Days Ago — and Welcomes More Time With Family
King Charles was informed days ago that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to move their family back to the U.K., according to PEOPLE, with the monarch said to welcome the opportunity to spend more time with his son and grandchildren.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to Britain later this month after six years living in California. Their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are also expected to attend school in the U.K. beginning in September.
The family is reportedly preparing to establish a private, non-royal home in Britain. Their new address and the children’s school will remain private.

Despite the move, Harry and Meghan are not expected to resume their former roles as working members of the Royal Family. The couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020, and their return to Britain will not change their status as private citizens.
King Charles welcomes more time with Harry and the children
According to PEOPLE, King Charles learned about the Sussexes’ plans on Sunday and is said to welcome the chance to see Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet more frequently in a personal capacity.
The development comes only weeks after a significant family reunion at Highgrove House, where Harry and Meghan met Charles and Queen Camilla.
The meeting marked the first time Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in more than four years. It was also only the third meeting between Harry and his father since the King’s cancer diagnosis in 2024.
The reunion was viewed as a potential turning point in the relationship between father and son, following years of tension within the Royal Family.
Harry and Meghan will keep their homes overseas
Although the Sussexes are establishing a new base in Britain, they are not giving up their life in the United States completely.
The couple are expected to retain their Montecito mansion, where they have lived since moving to California in 2020. They will also keep their holiday property in Portugal.

The location of their new British residence has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether they have purchased the property or are renting it.
Their decision to keep their California home suggests the family intends to maintain connections on both sides of the Atlantic rather than completely abandon their American life.
Archie and Lilibet will start school in Britain
Perhaps the biggest change for the Sussex children will be their education.
Archie was born in Britain and spent the first months of his life there, but Lilibet has spent almost her entire life in the United States. The five-year-old has only made a small number of visits to the U.K.
Both children are now expected to attend school in Britain from September, marking a major change in their day-to-day lives.
The family has not revealed which school they will attend, with their privacy remaining a priority.
Security remains a major issue for Harry
Harry’s return is particularly notable because security concerns have long been one of the biggest obstacles to spending more time in Britain with his wife and children.
After stepping down as working royals, Harry and Meghan lost their automatic state-funded police protection. Harry has repeatedly argued that it would be unsafe to bring his family to the U.K. without appropriate security arrangements.
The dispute has also contributed to tension between Harry and his father, with reports previously claiming that the King was not taking his son’s calls or responding to his letters.
However, the recent reunion at Highgrove appears to have marked a significant improvement in their relationship.
An insider who knows Harry previously told PEOPLE that he has “always had one foot” in Britain, suggesting that despite building a new life in California, his connection to his home country has never completely disappeared.
Now, with Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet preparing to establish a home in Britain again, the Sussexes’ relationship with the Royal Family could be entering a very different chapter.
