Making his first appearance following a series of shocking events, former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has released the latest images from inside a New York detention center, stunning the global public with his visibly thinner appearance while he confidently smiled and flashed the peace sign.

Ousted Venezuela dictator Nicolas Maduro has slimmed down during his time behind bars, new photos from his New York City jail show — as the socialist also flashed a smile and peace sign.

Maduro, 63, is beaming in a gray track suit and pair of white sneakers in the photographs from Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, which were dated June 25, 2026.

US Special Forces captured the socialist and his wife Cilia Flores at their heavily guarded home in Caracas during a ​January 3 nighttime raid ordered by President Trump.

They were brought to New York, where they were indicted on charges of using ​their leadership positions to work with drug cartels to ship thousands of tons of cocaine into the US between 1999 and 2025.
They have both pleaded not guilty.

Last month, prosecutors with the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office and Maduro’s defense lawyers confirmed his trial will start in ​June 2027.
