PART 1
“Luca… if you walk out that door tonight, don’t ever come back asking what you threw away.”
I smiled because I thought she was trying to stop me.
Years later, I realized she wasn’t begging…
She was warning me.
The night I divorced Nia, she didn’t cry or scream.
She just sat there holding a cup of tea with shaking hands.
“Is this really what you want?” she asked.
“Yes,” I replied. “I can’t spend my life waiting for something that’s never going to happen.”
She closed her eyes for a moment before whispering, “One day you’ll learn who really lied to you.”
I walked away believing she was the one who had destroyed our future.
For years, I never questioned it.
Everyone around me believed the same story—that Nia couldn’t give me children. I accepted it without asking for proof.
I remarried.
My second wife, Evelyn, was elegant, respected, and everything people admired. Together we hosted charity events, smiled for cameras, and lived inside a picture-perfect marriage.
Then one doctor’s appointment changed everything.
The specialist looked directly at me and said,
“Mr. Moretti… your test results are completely normal. There has never been a fertility issue.”
I felt my entire world stop.
If I wasn’t the problem…
Then why had I abandoned the woman I once promised forever?
I spent three nights replaying every memory of Nia until I couldn’t tell whether I was awake or dreaming.
PART 2
A few days later, Evelyn insisted we attend a charity dinner at Bellavita.
I barely touched my food.
Then the restaurant door opened.
Nia walked in.
She looked peaceful… happier than I’d ever seen her.
But she wasn’t alone.
Two identical little boys were holding her hands.
One of them dropped a tiny blue mitten.
Before I even realized what I was doing, I stood up and picked it up.
The little boy looked at me.
My heart nearly stopped.
Those eyes.
That expression.
That tiny frown.
It was like staring at my own childhood.
Nia turned and froze.
“Luca…”
She whispered my name as though she’d seen a ghost.
One twin hid behind her coat.
The other kept staring at me before asking,
“Mama… is that him?”
I couldn’t speak.
Neither could anyone else.
PART 3
Evelyn slowly stood beside me.
She looked from my face… to the twins… then back to Nia.
Finally, she broke the silence.
“Nia…”
“Why do those boys look exactly like my husband?”
The restaurant became so quiet that every conversation around us disappeared.
People stopped eating.
A waiter froze beside our table.
Nia gently pulled both boys closer without taking her eyes off me.
For several seconds…
No one moved.
No one breathed.
Then she reached into her handbag.
Without saying a single word, she slowly pulled out something she had kept hidden for years.
The moment I recognized what was in her hand…
I knew everything I believed about my first marriage was about to collapse.
And I wasn’t prepared for the truth that came next.
