Tracking down a genuinely funny comedy to watch can be something of a challenge. Beyond the golden era of Friends and the brief revival of ensemble comedies in the 2010s with the likes of New Girl and Parks and Recreation, the genre seems to have quietly faded into the background.
However, one new series has burst onto the scene and firmly established itself as one of my favourite new comedies in recent memory.
Adults, created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw and produced by Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), follows a group of hapless twenty-somethings sharing a home in a quiet corner of New York.
The characters are all gloriously chaotic, with perhaps the sole exception of Paul Baker (never just Paul) — a loveable Canadian transplant portrayed by Jack Innanen, who serves as the unlikely glue holding the group together.
The group dynamic brings back vivid memories of my own early twenties, when everyone around me was stumbling headlong into careers they weren’t entirely convinced by, desperately attempting to keep pace with everyone else’s relationships and, above all, trying to figure out adulthood.

It’s an effortless watch, with just eight episodes in the first series released in 2025, a further eight due to premiere later this month, and a special prequel which aired on July 31.
Each episode runs to around 20 minutes and is packed with genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, alongside a handful of gloriously cringeworthy scenes that’ll have you covering your eyes.
The show holds a 7.4 rating on IMDB, with reviewers hailing it as “the next big thing”.
One viewer wrote: “It feels like getting on board a plane right before it takes off.
“The biggest issue with the show is simply that there isn’t more of it, I would’ve watched for hours on end.
“It’s so rare to find a show as irreverently funny and sentimentally sweet at the same time, but somehow this balances both masterfully.”
Another added: “This FX comedy about five twenty-somethings sharing a house in Queens is the most I’ve laughed-and cringed-in ages.
“It captures the messiness of early adulthood with a blend of absurd humor and genuine emotion.”
