What were Meghan Markle and Prince Harry up to during the weekend of Trooping the Colour?
Members of the British royal family came together to celebrate King Charles’ official birthday at the Trooping the Colour parade in London on Saturday, June 13, while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were up to some other fun activities in the United States.
Meghan, 44, hosted a game night for her girlfriends at her California home in Montecito, as evidenced by a post her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen shared on Instagram on June 14.
“Ugh oh. Another one has been taken by the Maj bug. That being me 😝,” the Alliance of Moms co-founder wrote below a photo of her with a mahjong set at what appeared at Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s patio.

“A perfect day spent with my ladies and having some much needed mama time. Thanks M & T ✨✨ Now back to the babes and obsessing over my next game. ✨,” wrote Zajfen, with the “M” a reference to Meghan’s nickname.
It was revealed in a season one episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, that she and a circle of girlfriends play mahjong, and she apparently got the group together while Prince Harry was away.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, attended Game 5 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, where the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs.
A source tells PEOPLE that Harry was already in San Antonio for the Warrior Games, which are running from June 13 to 20 in the city, and was invited to the game by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, with whom he was pictured.

The following day, military charity Fisher House Foundation posted a video of Harry pitching in to serve BBQ with United Airlines on the sidelines of the Warrior Games, which inspired the inception of his Invictus Games.
“A special lunch came with a special surprise today. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, joined the Warrior Games Family Program serving up bbq cooked up by the @united airlines bbq team to families competitors and staff,” the clip was captioned on Instagram.
“More than a decade after attending his first @dowwarriorgames, Prince Harry continues to return to the event that helped inspire the creation of the @weareinvictusgames, a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of adaptive sports and the resilience, determination, and camaraderie on display throughout the week,” Fisher House Foundation wrote.
The Warrior Games are the U.S. Department of Defense’s adaptive sports tournament for wounded, ill or injured service personnel, and Prince Harry was inspired to launch an international edition after attending the event in 2013.
The Duke of Sussex has since hosted seven cycles of the Invictus Games on the world’s stage and will bring the Games back to England — where it all began — in Birmingham in 2027. He will travel to the U.K. in July for related kickoff events, but sources tell PEOPLE that Meghan and their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, aren’t expected to join him amid ongoing security obstacles.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their taxpayer-funded police protection in Britain when they stepped back from their royal roles in the U.K. in 2020, and they later moved to the U.S.
Prince Harry and Meghan attended Trooping the Colour as a couple twice during Queen Elizabeth’s reign, and Harry wrote about the awkward moment between his wife and Princess Kate following Meghan’s first Trooping in his memoir, Spare.

“Kate asked Meg what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour. And Meg joked: Colourful,” Harry wrote in his 2023 book.
The Duke of Sussex wrote that an uncomfortable pause followed, “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”
Prince Harry and Meghan attended Trooping together in 2018 and 2019, but Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have never been. They were also in London for the event in 2022, when it kicked off Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, but only working members of the family were included in the procession and balcony appearance that year, so they watched the festivities from above Horse Guards’ Parade.
