Months after Rosie O’Donnell said on a podcast that she’d return to The View for its landmark season 30, cohost Ana Navarro reacts in an interview with Entertainment Weekly to a claim that she approached the former panelist about coming back to the show.
“That’s above my pay grade. I just sit at the table. I don’t do the bookings,” Navarro tells EW in an interview about her new Bleep! podcast, when asked about O’Donnell’s team claiming in a prior statement to EW that Navarro “mentioned [to O’Donnell] coming to Season 30 of The View as a guest (at some point during the season)” without a concrete invitation.
The 54-year-old adds, however, that “there are a bunch of different things going on to mark and celebrate the 30 years of The View.”

Reflecting on O’Donnell’s tenure at The View (she served as moderator from 2006-2007, and sat on the panel from 2014-2015), Navarro praises the 64-year-old as “a very memorable part of The View’s history” and that she maintains love for the comedian.
“I’m very proud of her for coming out stronger in the broken places,” Navarro says of her friend, who moved out of the United States last year under Donald Trump’s second term in office, as the pair have long publicly sparred.
“Rosie put her daughter first and herself first. She was able to process that living in America under Donald Trump, a man who attacks her frequently, was putting her well-being and wellness in danger,” Navarro says. “Compromising her well-being, and she made the decision to leave. I marvel at that, because I hear so many people say, ‘If Donald Trump wins, I’m going to leave the country,’ or ‘If Hillary Clinton wins, I’m going to leave the country,’ and then nobody leaves! Rosie actually did it.”
In August, O’Donnell made headlines for teasing a potential return to The View, after she famously exited for the first time in 2007 following a major on-air dust-up with fellow former cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Of her experience at The View, O’Donnell told The Tangle podcast over the summer that, while she admires current moderator Whoopi Goldberg, she felt that Goldberg “felt encroached upon” when O’Donnell returned to the show full-time in 2014.
“And it didn’t go so well, you know. So I didn’t want it to be awkward and go on there and make it awkward,” she said. “I thought I was going in safe and sound and it didn’t turn out that way from day one,” O’Donnell alleged. O’Donnell said that she “made the mistake of throwing to a commercial when [Whoopi] was still talking,” and that Goldberg “was very upset by that.”
Now, the women have “gotten past it,” O’Donnell remarked, and Goldberg often brings up her former colleague on the air.
While she might not join The View in a permanent capacity, O’Donnell has teased in recent weeks that she’s eyeing another television venture following her four-episode stint hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live in August.
Navarro continues to sit at The View’s Hot Topics table as a permanent cohost, while she also regularly contributes to CNN during its live broadcasts.
The View airs weekdays on ABC. Navarro’s Bleep! podcast premieres new episodes weekly on iHeartRadio and major podcast apps.
