What began as an immigration enforcement encounter escalated into gunfire, leaving a man wounded while a young child was inside the vehicle. Police and law enforcement sources say the shooting involved an ICE agent and a migrant whom authorities described as a criminal illegal immigrant β€” a characterisation attributed to officials rather than independently established. The presence of the five-year-old boy has made the incident particularly alarming, raising questions about how the confrontation unfolded and the circumstances in which the agent discharged a weapon. Investigators now face the task of establishing exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. WATCH BELOW πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

ICE agents shot and wounded a suspected migrant gang member in the Bronx Thursday while a 5-year-old boy sat in the back of his SUV, drawing a crowd of bystanders who peppered the armed agents with insults.

The shooting happened outside 2 Marble Hill Ave. around 4:20 p.m. when the feds tried to arrest a 28-year-old β€œcriminal illegal alien” from the Dominican Republic, and things quickly went off script, according to the Department of Homeland Security and sources.

β€œThey shot this n—– out the car, bro,” one bystander is heard yelling on a video posted online. β€œThis nβ€”- over here got a AR. Look at this. That’s ICE. This is ICE, bro.”

The wounded man, whom the DHS said has ties to the Trinitarios gang, was shot in the neck but is expected to survive.

He was seen sitting handcuffed on the pavement while as many as a dozen agents swarm the scene and keep bystanders back.

The young boy, who has not been identified, was not injured.

Video footage from the scene shows police pulling a man from a silver SUV in handcuffs, while armed federal agents surround the vehicle β€” even as bystanders begin to gather on the sidewalk.

One man in a construction vest with a badge around his neck roamed around the vehicle holding a semi-automatic rifle, keeping bystanders back.

β€œI was in the store on Broadway and someone said someone’s getting shot,” one witness to the aftermath told The Post. β€œAnd then I came out and there was someone on the ground in handcuffs.

β€œThere was a guy holding a gun up, looking around in case someone wanted to interfere,” he added. β€œHe was ICE.”

The alleged criminal migrant has β€œa prior criminal conviction for grand larceny, and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, possession of drugs, and weapons possession,” the DHS said in a statement.

β€œThis criminal illegal alien was arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was released into the community a few days later by reckless Democrat sanctuary policies that put American lives at risk,” the statement read.

Sources said the feds were investigating whether the wounded man is tied to the migrant moped gang tied to the shooting of an off-duty border patrol agent at Fort Washington Park last year.

Federal authorities did not say what provoked the gunfire, but confirmed that an ICE officer discharged their weapon.

The NYPD was not involved in the operation, the department said.

β€œAt around 4 p.m. today, there was a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx,” the NYPD said in a post on X. β€œThe NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting.

β€œThe individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention,” the department said.

A crowd of roughly 300 Anti-ICE protesters and several cops flooded the area surrounding Allen Hospital, where the wounded man was taken, on Thursday night. The protesters were heard chanting β€œICE out of New York Now!”

Politicians, including Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Dem congressional nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier, also held a press conference blasting ICE near the scene on Thursday evening.

Iris Rosa, 67, who has lived in the Marble Hill neighborhood for 30 years, said she was almost a β€œvictim” as the shots rang out as she was turning the corner.

β€œWe were turning the corner when the shots rang out. And I heard this β€”Β  β€˜pow,’ β€˜pow,’ β€˜pow’ β€”Β  like really loud shots,” Rosa said.

β€œWe ran for our lives. Everyone ran. The children were running down the block for their lives.”

Rosa said the child who was in the car was being held by a person who appeared to be an ICE agent after the shooting.

The wounded man was bloodied. had β€œcuts around his neck,” and appeared to be going in and out of consciousness, she said.

Witness Cynthia Michel heard gunshots from her apartment and went outside to find the harrowing scene.

β€œI heard the gunshots from my apartment, came outside, saw that it was a man running from this area with an assault rifle … they had the man on the floor with his hands behind his back. He was screaming that they’re going to kill him, that he was going to die, that he doesn’t want to die,” Michel said.

β€œThe five-year-old boy was screaming for his father,” she added.

Michel added that family members eventually picked up the young boy, as a crowd gathered and screamed at agents to give the man medical attention.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other lawmakers expressed outrage at the ICE-involved shooting and called for federal agents to stay away from the city.

β€œThis is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,” Hizzoner said.

β€œGet ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children,” he continued. β€œAbolish ICE.”

Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who represents Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, said he was on the scene after being briefed by the NYPD.

β€œI am demanding all body camera footage and evidence be preserved, a full investigation with full cooperation from the federal government, and accountability,” Espaillat wrote in a post on X. β€œICE is a rogue agency that must be reigned in.”

City Council Speaker Julie Menin also released a statement calling for a full investigation into the shooting and said she was β€œdeeply worried” about immigrant New Yorkers’ β€œanxieties” following the incident.

β€œI recognize the immense fear that ICE’s actions have caused immigrant New Yorkers, and I’m deeply worried about the additional anxiety and uncertainty this incident may bring to communities across our city as we await answers.”

β€œNew Yorkers are outraged tonight. Immigrant communities are terrified. And we are demanding answers,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

She said she has spoken to President Trump and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to demand answers on the shooting.

β€œI expressed outrage on behalf of New Yorkers and urged them to halt ICE enforcement operations in New York,” she wrote on X.

β€œI also asked that any body camera footage of the shooting be released to the public so we can establish the facts and get to the truth.”
