Reigning world bronze medallists Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson rock to the iconic girl group on Monday (9 February) at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.
The Spice Girls are back at the Olympics.
Fourteen years after rocking the Olympic Stadium at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games, British ice dancers Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson rocked out to the iconic girl group during Monday’s (9 February) rhythm dance at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
Fear and Gibson scored 85.47 and sit fourth in the standings while France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, at 90.18 lead.
Gold, silver and bronze will be decided with Wednesday’s (11 February) free dance.
A musical theme for the rhythm dance is chosen each year by the International Skating Union (ISU). The theme for 2026 is “The Music, Dance Styles and Feeling of the 1990s.”
And what better to capture that than a medley featuring “Wannabe,” ‘Viva Forever” and ‘Spice Up Your Life?”
From the opening beats of music inside the Milano Ice Skating Arena, the near capacity crowd loved what they heard and saw.
“I think when [the program] started, I kind of got the reaction from the crowd like, ‘Oh, I like this song!’ ” said Gibson. “Then the clapping started to build. You can feel [the crowd] get involved.”
That energy is part of what makes the program so special and pushes the pair, says Gibson: “We wanted to dance to our maximum, and I think that’s what we’re so proud of here. We were able to let it rip out there.”
With the men taking centre stage on Tuesday (10 February), the ice dance teams will enjoy a day off before the deciding round.
“We’ve trained so that we’re able to go to the max every time that we do it,” said Fear. “Then, we’ll prioritise rest and recovery.”
