Prince Harry may be returning to Buckingham Palace soon.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, is expected to visit the U.K. in September, and The Sun reported that King Charles will offer his younger son a room at Buckingham Palace in London for his stay.

Buckingham Palace and Prince Harry’s representatives had no comment on the report when reached by PEOPLE.

The olive branch comes after Prince Harry had a rare reunion with his father, 77, during his recent visit to the U.K. The meeting at Highgrove House also included Meghan Markle and the couple’s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking the first time the King had seen his California-based grandchildren since 2022.

The King’s offer for Prince Harry to stay at a royal residence also comes after a public back-and-forth over accommodations during the Duke of Sussex’s latest return to his home country.

Prince Harry’s team and Buckingham Palace offered sharply different accounts of accommodation arrangements during his July visit. Although King Charles offered for Harry and his family to stay at a royal residence, it was initially declined. Harry later sought to accept the offer, but palace officials maintained the deadline had passed, turning what should have been a private family matter into yet another public scuffle.

Behind the scenes, the drama surrounding the visit was “quite stressful,” a source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told PEOPLE.

Russell Myers, author of William & Catherine, added, “What was billed as a big homecoming — not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too — turned into a nightmare. It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution.”

Prince Harry and Meghan previously lived at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace in London before moving to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor shortly before Archie was born in 2019. After they stepped back from their royal roles in 2020 and relocated to California, the couple was asked to vacate Frogmore.

For part of their U.K. visit, Prince Harry, Meghan and their kids stayed at Althorp, the Spencer family’s 13,000-acre ancestral estate, where Princess Diana grew up and is buried. Hosted by Harry’s uncle Charles Spencer, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet had the chance to learn more about their grandmother, who died when Harry was 12.

Meghan, 44, later shared photos on Instagram of her children and Harry at the estate.

While Prince Harry has returned to the U.K. on a number of occasions in recent years, sometimes staying at Althorp or other private residences, a long battle over security has prevented Meghan and their children from joining. Their recent return marked a landmark visit a year after Prince Harry told the BBC he “can’t see a world” in which he would bring his family back to his home country without the police protection the couple lost after stepping back from their royal roles.

“The things that they’re going to miss is, well, everything,” Harry added of his children. “I miss the U.K., I miss parts of the U.K., of course I do. I think that it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”

PEOPLE understands that a review of Harry’s security arrangements by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC), which could affect the level of protection he receives during U.K. visits, had yet to conclude as of late June. Representatives for the Duke of Sussex say RAVEC’s own terms of reference call for a Risk Management Board review at least once a year, but Harry’s last review was conducted nearly seven years ago.

Prince Harry will also return to the U.K. next summer for the 2027 Invictus Games, being held in Birmingham.
