Meghan Markle’s kids have a unique policy when it comes to dessert.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, opened up about her children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, during her appearance on MasterChef Australia this week, including some of their eating habits.
“The kids are great eaters; we’re very lucky on that front,” Meghan told judges Jean-Christophe Novelli, Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin.
“[They] jump in a lot, especially with the garden,” she continued. “I think it’s such a nice luxury to be able to have so much space and things to cook.”
Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, 41, moved their family to Montecito, California, in 2020. Their estate includes a garden, chicken coop and even an orchard, which Meghan said often comes in handy when her kids are looking for a sweet treat.
“If they say, ‘Mama, can I have dessert?’ We say, ‘If you can pick it, you can have it,’ “ she shared.

Levin then joked, “You can’t pick chocolate!”
“No, you can’t pick chocolate, but you can pick a nice piece of fruit,” Meghan replied.
“We always have a nice, as my husband would say, ‘pud,’ ” she added, using the nickname for “pudding” that is used as a common British catch-all term for the dessert course served after a meal.
Home-grown berries are also a staple ingredient in one of Archie and Lili’s favorite breakfasts, what Meghan calls “surprise pancakes.”
“They don’t know what’s going to be on the other side when it flips over,” she shared with PEOPLE in March 2025, noting that her pancake smiley faces can be made of rainbow sprinkles, chocolate chips or blueberries in the shape of a smiley face.
“Of course, they love [toast with] jam and fresh fruit preserves,” Meghan added, “because they were such a part of me making them and picking all that fruit during berry season for all of our canning.”
While fresh fruit is a favorite, Meghan previously told The New York Times in an April 2025 interview that she’ll sometimes turn to kid-friendly favorites like chicken nuggets, veggies and tater tots from the freezer.
“My husband and Archie both love fried eggs. There’s a lot of bacon around here,” she shared with PEOPLE. ”And then sometimes you don’t have time for all that, and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day. And there’s no shame in that either.”
