Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream have hit a rough patch, losing their last five games and slipping to seventh in the league standings with a 12-9 record. Before the skid, Reese and the Dream were one of the WNBA’s hottest teams, setting franchise milestones and giving opponents a tough battle for all four quarters. Lately, though, Atlanta has struggled to recapture that early-season form. Even so, the former LSU star isn’t concerned about the Dream’s place in the standings. Instead, Reese sent a confident message to the rest of the league, making it clear she still believes Atlanta will be a team to fear.

Angel Reese Sends A Warning To Other WNBA Teams After The Dream Loss

The Dream lost their third matchup to the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday, July 4. While their latest contest was a much better showing for the team, they struggled with their shots from the hardwood and the charity line, resulting in an 88-83 final score. The loss was the fifth straight for the Dream, and despite the disappointing turnout, the 24-year-old superstar said that she and her team weren’t hanging their heads.

During the postgame press conference, Reese spoke about the Dream’s determination to get back on track and sent a warning to the teams ahead of them in the standings. “We have 5 games going into All-Star, and any team in front of us should be scared because we’re ready, and we’re gonna continue to put our foot forward every day, watch film, get together and figure ourselves out,” she said.

She added, “Adversity builds character in the locker room, having tough conversations, taking accountability for things and figuring it out.”

Angel Reese Details The Dream’s Plan For Getting Back On Track After A Five-Game Losing Streak

Reese and her Atlanta teammates don’t play again until Thursday, July 9, when they face the Seattle Storm at 8 PM ET. Before their next contest, Reese said the Dream will focus on spending time together. She also said she hopes it will help them recalibrate.

“But we have a lot of time until our next game. So spend some time together, being at home, enjoying each other is something that we’re gonna do, but we’re not down. We’re not down, and this team is used to winning,” she said.

During the postgame conference, Reese also expressed her disappointment in her team’s inefficient shooting over the last five games. In their contest against Golden State, the Dream shot 8-for-26 from 3-point range and 23-for-33 from the free-throw line.

According to Reese, their performance is unacceptable. “No excuse. Absolutely no excuse. We just have to be better. If it’s shooting 100 free throws after practice or 50 free throws after practice, that’s what it is. But we haven’t shot great, not just from the free-throw line, but from our field goals, too,” she said.

The Atlanta Dream Will Use The 2nd Quarter Of The Season To Figure Things Out

Another reason Reese and the rest of the Dream roster seem unfazed by their current record is that they believe they will turn the corner here soon. The 2x All-Star said this is the point in the season when her team will lock in while others tend to get a bit more relaxed.

“The 2nd quarter of the season is like the hardest season right before you go into All-Star because it leaves you a feel of what it’s going to feel like after that,” she said. “Because a lot of teams relax, they get comfortable, but we’re figuring it out, and we’re going to figure it out.”

Head coach Karl Smesko echoed that sentiment while speaking with the media, saying he expects them to get back to normal after a few days of intense practice and focus.

Angel Reese Comments On Atlanta Dream’s Lack Of Representation In The All-Star Game

According to a previous report from The Blast, Reese also spoke with the media about the lack of Dream starters in the upcoming All-Star game.

“I expect to be disrespected,” Reese said. However, she said not seeing her teammates, Allisha Gray or Rhyne Howard, on the starters’ list surprised her.

“For those two, though, I think they work so hard, and they put a lot of work in, and the way that they’re guarded every game and they [have to] adjust. The reason why we’re where we are is because of those two,” she said. “For us not to have anyone was just a slap in the face, but they’re not going to say anything. I am.”

Reese Left Chicago To Play For Atlanta

Reese has been part of the Dream’s roster since the start of the season. She was traded to the Georgia-based team from the Chicago Sky in April 2026 after a rocky end to her second year in the Windy City.

Directly after the trade, Reese said she was looking forward to developing as a player in Atlanta, saying, “I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.”
