The Dallas, Texas, teenager delivered a powerful, reimagined performance of Elton John’s “Your Song” during the Season 21 Live Quarterfinal on Tuesday, September 1, earning a standing ovation and a second Golden Buzzer that sends her directly to the finale.

The performance marked another major milestone for a young singer who first caught the judges’ attention during the Season 21 auditions.

Lai Noelle leaves the judges stunned

Despite being only 14 years old, Noelle appeared completely unfazed by the pressure of performing live on one of television’s biggest talent stages.

She took on Elton John’s classic “Your Song” and transformed it with her own vocal style and energy. By the end of the performance, the audience was on its feet.

Judges Howie Mandel, Mel B and Sofia Vergara, along with guest judge Kenan Thompson, all joined the standing ovation.

She even joked that she was still disappointed because she had originally wanted to give Noelle a Golden Buzzer herself during the auditions — only for Cowell to beat her to it.

Noelle’s latest Golden Buzzer was particularly remarkable because it was not her first.

Earlier in Season 21, she auditioned with Sienna Spiro’s “Die On This Hill.” Her performance earned a standing ovation and left the judges stunned.

Vergara had been considering pressing her Golden Buzzer for the young singer, but Cowell ultimately stepped in and claimed the moment for himself.

Cowell told Noelle that her voice was an extraordinary gift before hitting his Golden Buzzer, sending her directly to the live shows.

NBC’s official America’s Got Talent account described Noelle’s audition as one of the standout performances of the season, noting that Cowell’s Golden Buzzer launched a historic premiere episode featuring three Golden Buzzers in a single night.

Now, just months later, Noelle has added another Golden Buzzer to her Season 21 journey.

Kenan Thompson makes the call

The September 1 quarterfinal featured 11 acts competing for a place in the next stage of the competition.

But Thompson had a special power of his own: the Live Golden Buzzer.

After watching Noelle perform “Your Song,” he made his decision.

“I hope y’all ready for some more confetti,” Thompson told the room.

He then instructed Vergara to activate the Golden Buzzer on his behalf.

Moments later, gold confetti filled the stage as Noelle smiled through the celebration.

Thompson explained that what stood out to him was Noelle’s ability to deliver a performance with a rare “wow factor.” He described her as “dynamically gifted” and recognized her as an artist capable of making an immediate impact.

Noelle’s path through Season 21 began with an audition that immediately established her as one of the young singers to watch.

She is a student and aspiring singer from Texas, and her first appearance on the show demonstrated a striking contrast between her soft-spoken personality and the much bigger voice she produces when she sings.

According to the episode format, three of the other 10 performers will advance based on America’s voting, with the results scheduled for the following night.
