Secondhand embarrassment steals the show — Nikki Glaser faces sharp backlash as a Golden Globes skit crashes hard, forcing an A-list star to step in and shut it down. What was meant to be a bold comedic moment at the Golden Globe Awards instead sparked visible discomfort across the room — and online. Viewers flooded social media calling the bit “awful” and “painful to watch,” while one Hollywood heavyweight’s intervention made the moment impossible to ignore. As the ceremony marked its 83rd year, the misfired joke became an instant reminder that at awards shows, timing is everything — and when comedy misses, the silence can be louder than the laugh.

The 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards have officially gotten underway, and things got a little weird almost halfway through.

During the show, host Nikki Glaser decided to do a Marty Supreme-inspired parody of the hit song ‘Golden’ from Netflix‘s K-Pop Demon Hunters. As she awkwardly used a ping pong paddle as a microphone, fans at home squirmed awkwardly in their seats.

During the bit, Nikki sang, “They asked me to host the Golden Globes. They said Do your thing, just please don’t sing.” She continued, donning a dark blue windbreaker and singing into a golden ping pong paddle. To save the day, Fran Drescher, the actress best known for her role as The Nanny, came on stage and had the music cut.

Fran then told Nikki, “Stop, please. Stop. For the love of god, stop.” She later added, “Sweetie, you know I love you, but you have to stop singing, your voice is so annoying!”

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on the awkward skit. “Nikki Glaser humiliation ritual complete,” one wrote.

A fourth bluntly put, “Nikki Glazer, get the F–K off my screen with this bulls–t.”

“Why is Nikki Glaser like this???” another added. “Having to listen to Nikki Glaser sing instead of seeing Ludwig Göransson win best original score… Golden Globes, you are nothing,” a third wrote.
