Outlander star Caitríona Balfe looks worlds away from Claire Fraser

Caitríona Balfe, famed for her role in Outlander, is unrecognizable in her latest film venture, after paying tribute to the show, with the final season of her Starz series being teased, reports the Daily Record.

At 45, the actress has ditched the wigs and period attire for a modern look featuring a choppy blonde bob as she takes on a role in the boxing film The Cut.

Balfe took to Instagram to share a trailer of the movie, adding the caption: “Every comeback comes at a price. Watch the official trailer for #TheCutMovie – Only in theatres September 5.”

In The Cut, Balfe acts alongside Orlando Bloom of Pirates of the Caribbean fame and John Turturro from Severance.

The film, a psychological sports thriller, delves into the life of a once-champion boxer grappling with the aftermath of a devastating defeat as he strives to reclaim his past glory.

As he becomes consumed by his quest for redemption, his grip on reality begins to slip, potentially leading him down a path of even greater peril.

Balfe portrays Caitlin Harney, the concerned girlfriend of the boxer who watches anxiously as he embarks on a harsh training regimen under the relentless Boz, played by Turturro.

The cast also features Claire Dunne from The Wheel of Time, Ed Kear of Here We Go, Gary Beadle known for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Oliver Trevena from Paradise City, and Andonis Anthony, recognizable from Emmerdale.

The comment section was abuzz with excitement for the film, with Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom’s ex-partner, exclaiming: “The best movie!”.

One individual exclaimed: “Gahhh Caitríona! ! ! This looks freaking amazing! Can’t wait to see you in it! ! [sic].”

Another chimed in: “Looking forward too see my favorit actress and storyteller Caitriona Balfe in her new movies the cut and Tenzing [sic].”

The Cut represents Balfe’s latest venture outside of Outlander, following her role in the thriller The Amateur earlier this year alongside Rami Malek.

She is currently involved in a vastly different project, playing Regency matriarch Mrs Dashwood in the upcoming Sense and Sensibility film. The cast includes Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones, Hanna star Esmé Creed-Miles, George MacKay from The Beast, Killing Eve’s Fiona Shaw, and Harry Potter actor Frank Dillane.

Balfe is also set to appear in the film Tenzing, which is currently in production.

The eighth and final season of Outlander is slated to hit screens in early 2026, following the completion of filming in November 2024 and subsequent post-production.

Both Balfe and Sam Heughan are now involved in various new projects since wrapping up work on Outlander.

While Outlander season eight is still some time away, fans can look forward to the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which is set to premiere this week.

The show explores the dual love stories of Jamie (Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s parents.

Just like the original series, fans can look forward to time travel and romance set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
