A Florida mother of four has described the devastating final moments of her husband’s life after he became trapped in his truck during catastrophic flooding and called her in tears, desperately seeking help.

Joshua Bennett, 34, was making a routine trip to get coffee on Monday when rapidly rising floodwaters engulfed his vehicle in Palm Bay, Florida.

As the water surrounded his truck, Bennett managed to contact his wife, Stacy Bennett, through FaceTime. The call would become their final conversation.

His wife later described the terrifying ordeal to local television station WESH2, revealing how she tried to guide him to safety before their connection suddenly ended.

What began as an ordinary morning quickly became a life-threatening emergency when Bennett encountered severe flooding on a suburban street.

A historic storm had brought extraordinary rainfall to parts of Florida, turning roads into dangerous waterways and leaving vehicles stranded.

According to Stacy, her husband was already trapped when he reached her through a video call.

He was visibly distressed as he described the water surrounding his truck, telling her that he did not know how to escape.

Bennett explained that his vehicle was effectively stranded in the middle of what appeared to be a river.

With the floodwater rising around him, his wife desperately searched for a way to help.

She urged him to break one of the truck’s windows and get out of the vehicle.

But before she could learn whether he had managed to escape, the FaceTime connection abruptly ended.

After the call disconnected, Stacy immediately contacted emergency services.

She spent hours attempting to secure help for her husband, hoping rescuers could reach him before it was too late.

Despite those efforts, Bennett was later found dead, according to Palm Bay police.

His death devastated a family that had expected him to return home from a simple coffee run.

The circumstances also highlighted the dangers posed by rapidly developing floods, particularly when drivers encounter roads that appear passable but are already overwhelmed by moving water.

The exact sequence of events after the video call ended was not detailed in the report.

Historic Storm Dumps Up to 20 Inches of Rain

Bennett was one of two people reported to have died during the severe Florida storm.

Officials said some areas received as much as 20 inches of rainfall within just 12 hours, overwhelming roads and creating dangerous flooding across affected communities.

The intense downpour left numerous motorists and residents stranded as floodwaters spread through neighbourhoods.

Hundreds of people reportedly required rescue during the emergency.

Images from Palm Bay showed vehicles navigating heavily flooded streets, illustrating the scale of the disruption.

For Bennett’s family, however, the storm’s consequences were deeply personal.

A sudden emergency had taken the life of a husband and father whose family depended on him.

Father of Four Remembered for His Devotion to His Children

Bennett leaves behind his wife and four children — one son and three daughters, including twin girls who were born prematurely.

Stacy described her husband as a devoted father who loved spending time with his children and regularly organised activities for them.

The couple had met while studying biology on a pre-medical track in college.

Over the years, they built a family together, with Joshua playing an important role in the children’s daily lives.

His wife remembered him as a loving husband and father whose commitment to his family was evident in the time and attention he gave them.

Now, she faces the overwhelming prospect of raising their children without him.

Speaking about the loss, Stacy explained that the family must rebuild their lives without the person who had been her closest source of support.

Beyond the emotional devastation, his absence has left the household confronting an uncertain future.

A Family Left Grieving After an Unthinkable Loss

The tragedy has drawn attention to the human cost of the historic flooding that struck Florida.

For Stacy Bennett, the most painful memory is the final call from her husband as he struggled to find a way out of his submerged truck.

She had tried to help him escape, but the connection ended before she could know whether he had reached safety.

Hours later, her worst fears were confirmed.

What should have been a brief trip for coffee instead ended in a tragedy that left four children without their father.

As affected Florida communities recover from the storm, the Bennett family is facing a far more lasting loss.
