The disappearance of newlywed Dominick Bianchi has taken another worrying turn after his cousin revealed an unusual change in his behavior just weeks before the 35-year-old walked away from his Upstate New York home without his phone, wallet or car.

Bianchi was last seen Tuesday morning near Forrest Pointe Drive in East Greenbush. Police continue to search for him as his family grows increasingly concerned, particularly because he has Type 1 diabetes and may not have access to his insulin.

Now his cousin, Marina Bianchi, says there was one moment last month that, in hindsight, stands out.

He broke a tradition that had continued “like clockwork”

Marina described Dominick as being “like a brother” to her and said he had remembered her birthday every year without fail.

But last month was different.

Dominick did not attend her birthday celebration. He did not even send her a message.

“Every year he reaches out on my birthday like clockwork,” Marina said.

At the time, she did not immediately interpret the change as a warning sign. Dominick and his new wife, Julianna Zyra, had recently moved from Quincy, Massachusetts, back to their hometown of East Greenbush to be closer to family.

Marina assumed the stress surrounding the move might explain why he had forgotten.

Only after Dominick disappeared did the missed birthday begin to feel more significant.

Marina initially wondered whether her cousin might simply have gone away temporarily. But as the days passed without contact, that possibility became increasingly difficult for her to accept.

“Three days? No, this is not right,” she said.

He left behind three things his family would expect him to take

Police say Dominick left his home Tuesday without his cellphone, wallet or vehicle.

That unexplained decision has added another layer of concern to the search.

His medical condition makes the situation particularly urgent. Dominick has Type 1 diabetes, and Marina said he had always taken managing the condition seriously.

His family fears he may now be without his insulin.

Marina described him as a “good dude” and said he was the last person she would have expected to disappear under circumstances like these.

The East Greenbush Police Department has continued its efforts to determine where he went.

Detective Sergeant Michael Guadagnino said investigators were exhausting available investigative techniques as they worked to locate him.

His newlywed wife made an emotional appeal

Dominick’s disappearance comes only months after he and Julianna began their married life together.

Julianna has said her husband struggles with his mental health and made an emotional public plea for him to return home.

“I know you feel really alone, but there are people who want to help you,” she said through tears.

“If you’re seeing this, please, come home.”

No major breakthrough in the search had been publicly announced at the time of the report.

Dominick was last seen at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday.

He is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and was reportedly wearing black sweatpants and a black long-sleeve shirt, possibly with a baseball cap.

He also has several distinctive tattoos, including a skull and roses on his chest, a baseball on his right arm and a cross on his back.

Authorities have asked residents around East Greenbush to check their properties for anything that could help establish Dominick’s movements.

That includes sheds, vehicles, trail cameras and home surveillance footage.

For his family, however, the unanswered questions extend beyond where Dominick went Tuesday morning.

They are also looking back at the weeks before he disappeared — including the birthday message that had arrived reliably year after year, until suddenly it didn’t.
