A heartbreaking incident unfolded in the small town of Northlake, Texas, when a mother was accused of savagely attacking her husband and two young children with a knife just before dawn.
The Escalation Before the Tragedy
The event began in the early hours of Tuesday when police received an emergency call from the family’s home. The father, 34-year-old Justin Hommel, dialed 911 at approximately 4:20 a.m. to report that his wife had just stabbed him in the head.
According to Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford, while the emergency call was ongoing, Hommel could be heard desperately trying to reach his children in another room while the mother allegedly continued trying to attack him.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they made the grim discovery of a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old baby boy suffering from stab wounds to their chests. Both children, along with the father, were rushed to the hospital and are all expected to survive.
Witness Testimony and Background
Flores is charged with two counts of attempted murder, police said.Facebook/Holly Flores
Prior to the tragedy, a construction worker performing jobs at a neighboring house reported seeing the couple engaged in a heated argument the day before.
-
The Wife’s Actions: The witness stated that he saw the wife (listed in jail records as 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds) pointing, waving her arms, and looking extremely upset.
-
The Husband’s Reaction: Meanwhile, the husband was simply “standing there listening and holding the baby” while she yelled at him.
-
Initial Impression: Because couples fighting is common and the wife was much smaller than her husband, the witness did not think much of it at the time.
Current Status and Legal Action
The mother has been identified as 37-year-old Holly Leeann Flores. Following the attack, she was taken into custody and faces two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Before being hauled off to the Denton County jail, Flores received stitches for a small cut on her chest area.
Police Chief Crawford revealed that officers had been called to the family’s address about five times since March, primarily for welfare checks. He expressed how heartbreaking it is for officers to respond to such traumatic events.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Flores remained in custody at the Denton County jail with no bond set.
