A madman gunned down two people and wounded several others at a brand new In-N-Out Burger in Idaho on Saturday, sending panicked patrons running for their lives.

The shooter, who is among the dead, launched his rampage inside the burger joint in Twins Falls at around 2 p.m. local time before heading outside – in clear view of witnesses who recorded the harrowing scene.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said investigators were still working to determine the final number of people injured and did not say how many people may have been involved.

Hicks also said officials believe “the threat to the community is over” and that investigators were working to identify the shooter and determine a motive.

Jerome Police Chief Duane Rubink told CNN that “it appears there was one shooter who is deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot.”

One witness told the Associated Press he watched the violence unfold while stopped at a traffic light near the In-N-Out restaurant.

Lane Koehn, 34, said he saw a person carrying what he described as an AR-style rifle come out of the drive-thru area before another man armed with a pistol began firing at the suspect.

Koehn said an employee then rushed to help a wounded co-worker, dragging the woman — who he said had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest — across the parking lot. He, the employee and the man carrying the pistol remained with her until paramedics arrived.

“She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,” Koehn told the AP.

Koehn estimated hearing three or four shots fired, adding that it was unclear to him whether anyone in particular had been targeted.

In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder said an associate was killed during the shooting.

“We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,” Snyder said in a statement. “She was taking care of our most important asset — our customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own. He shot both on our property and off, and ended his life shortly after he took the previous lives of our Associate and Customers, innocent people, who never saw it coming.”

Police had responded to the parking lot to what authorities described as an active shooter situation.

In one cellphone video, filmed from inside a nearby vehicle, a man wearing a black T-shirt and blue pants is seen standing between two parked Teslas before aiming what appears to be a rifle at the driver’s-side window of the blue vehicle.

Two shots ring out in quick succession, with a visible muzzle flash accompanying each discharge.

The man then lowers the weapon and briskly walks away before breaking into a run across the parking lot, still carrying the firearm.

The person filming can be heard whispering, “Oh my gosh” moments before the shots.

As the suspected gunman moves away, the camera abruptly drops as the person filming appears to duck for cover. A panicked voice later says, “Get down … I don’t have service.”

Another video, recorded from a vehicle stopped at a red light on Blue Lakes Boulevard North, shows people running across the street as gunshots crack in the background.

The camera pans toward the In-N-Out, where a person in dark clothing can be seen pacing near a white sedan in the drive-thru lane while holding a long firearm.

“He got more in the back,” one occupant says as the armed person leans into the sedan and later opens its rear hatch.

The person then removes a second long object from the vehicle as one witness says it is “something bigger.”

“I’m getting the f— out of here,” an occupant says before the vehicle speeds away.

As it passes the restaurant, one person yells out the window, “Hey! Stop shooting! Stop shooting, bitch!”

Several people can be seen fleeing the area, including a person in a white shirt running across the road and another in a bright yellow shirt sprinting along the sidewalk.

Authorities shut down the Perrine Bridge and roads in the area, while businesses in a nearby shopping center were placed on lockdown and the parking lot near Dick’s Sporting Goods was cleared.

The Magic Valley Mall also went into lockdown, while St. Luke’s Magic Valley urged people to avoid coming to the hospital unless it was an emergency.

The hospital said its emergency department remained open and was “working closely with law enforcement and emergency responders as they manage the situation,” according to the Associated Press.

Reinke said investigators were transporting hundreds of witnesses to different locations for interviews.

Chick-fil-A Twin Falls closed for the remainder of the day out of an abundance of caution.

Gov. Brad Little urged Idahoans to “avoid the area and follow directions from law enforcement as they work to keep everyone safe.”

The FBI said it was aware of the shooting and was offering assistance to local law enforcement.

The Twin Falls restaurant had been open for just one week before Saturday’s shooting, having welcomed its first customers on July 25, according to CNN.

“We are heartbroken,” In-N-Out COO Denny Warnick said in a statement.

“Our prayers go out to our Customers, our Associates, and all of their families. We are working with the Twin Falls Police Department to assist in the on-going investigation.”
