Presley Gerber’s Death Investigated as Suspected Overdose After Cardiac Arrest Call

New details have emerged surrounding the death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.

Emergency dispatch records indicate that authorities were called to a Santa Monica rehabilitation facility on the morning of September 20 following reports of a cardiac arrest and an apparent overdose. Presley was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m.

The Santa Monica Police Department is now investigating his death as a suspected overdose, although officials stress that the official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

Police say there is no indication of foul play

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:35 a.m. to a report of a possible overdose in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street.

When they arrived, they found an adult male deceased. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified him as Presley Gerber.

Police said detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose and that, at this stage, there is no indication of foul play.

The department added that the investigation remains ongoing, with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner responsible for determining the official cause and manner of death.

Autopsy completed, but cause of death remains undetermined

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy, but officials have not yet established exactly what caused Presley’s death.

The Medical Examiner said the cause and manner of death have been deferred, meaning additional testing or studies are required before a final determination can be made. Because the investigation is still active, officials have not disclosed what additional examinations have been requested.

Authorities also cautioned that deferred cases can take several months before a final cause of death is established.

That distinction is important: while police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, an overdose has not been formally established as the official cause of death.

Presley had spoken openly about mental health and addiction

Before his death, Presley had been unusually candid about his struggles with mental health and substance use.

He discussed those experiences publicly through social media and interviews, including his Mental Health Mondays posts and podcast appearances. He spoke about his efforts to understand his own experiences and hoped that sharing what he had gone through could help other people avoid similar mistakes.

His final public appearance came on June 11 at the We Are ENOUGH x Aviator Nation launch event at Aviator Nation Dreamland in Malibu, where he appeared alongside his parents.

During the event, Presley spoke about growing up in the public eye and the pressure to portray himself in a particular way. He said that he felt most free when he became honest with himself about his own journey.

He also encouraged people to maintain healthy habits, including getting outside and staying physically active.

Kaia Gerber had recently discussed her brother’s struggles

Presley’s younger sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber, had also spoken publicly about the impact of his addiction on their family.

In a Vogue interview published roughly a month before his death, Kaia discussed what the outlet described as Presley’s decade-long struggle with drug addiction.

She explained that his difficulties affected the entire family and that she had sometimes put her own needs aside so her family could focus on him.

Presley was the only son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber and the older brother of Kaia.

Family asks for privacy

Presley died at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica on September 20 at the age of 27, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records.

His family has asked for privacy as authorities continue investigating his death.

A representative for Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber and Kaia Gerber said the family is going through an “extremely difficult and painful time.”
