‘American Idol’ Alum’s Mistress Testifies He Said He Was Willing to Sacrifice His Daughters for Her

The former mistress of American Idol alum Caleb Flynn told an Ohio court that he repeatedly promised he was prepared to give up his family, career and home to be with her — including his relationship with their two daughters.

Alleigha Botner gave evidence this week at Flynn’s murder trial, reading messages exchanged during their lengthy affair in the months before his wife, Ashley Flynn, was fatally shot.

Ashley, 37, was killed in the middle of the night on February 16, 2026, at the couple’s home in Tipp City, Ohio. Their two daughters, who were 9 and 11 at the time, were asleep in another room.

Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, aggravated murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and witness intimidation. Prosecutors allege that he killed Ashley and then staged the home to make it appear that an intruder had broken in.

Botner, who has not been charged in connection with Ashley’s death, testified for two days about her relationship with Flynn and the messages they exchanged before the killing. More than 100,000 messages between the pair have been presented as evidence during the trial.

Messages about leaving Ashley

On September 30, 2025, Flynn allegedly told Botner that he was willing to sacrifice almost every part of his life to be with her.

According to Botner’s testimony, his message included his daughters, a $250,000 salaried job, his home and the church where he served, as well as the public shame he expected to face.

In another message the following month, Flynn allegedly wrote that leaving Ashley would mean “ruining my daughters’ lives,” but said he would still do it.

He later allegedly told Botner he was prepared to turn his life upside down, lose his job and salary, give up his home and no longer have his daughters with him full time in order to leave Ashley.

The messages were presented as evidence of the increasingly strained relationship between Flynn and Botner, who wanted him to leave his wife.

Botner had previously told the court that the pair used derogatory terms when referring to Ashley. She also testified that she had expressed anger toward Ashley herself, including writing at one point that she wanted to kill her.

Allegations about Ashley’s death

Prosecutors have presented other messages in which Flynn allegedly discussed killing his wife.

Botner testified that his comments became increasingly disturbing over time, saying he initially talked about wanting Ashley “gone” before allegedly discussing whether he could kill her without going to prison.

One message prosecutors highlighted was allegedly sent by Flynn on August 22, 2025.

“I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail,” he allegedly wrote.

Botner said she responded by urging him to divorce Ashley instead.

“I’m not asking that you take her life, obviously, because that’s not what you should do, and I know you actually wouldn’t,” she wrote, according to testimony reported by CBS News.

Prosecutors also showed messages from the period immediately before Ashley’s death. Flynn allegedly told Botner he intended to leave his wife the following day and wrote that he was not afraid.

After Ashley was killed, Botner sent Flynn a message asking whether he had been involved. He did not respond, and she later deleted the message because she feared police could discover their affair by examining his phone.

Botner ultimately told the court that she now believes Flynn killed Ashley.

“I hate him,” she testified, explaining that she believed he was responsible for his wife’s death.

Ashley Flynn’s life outside the case

Ashley was remembered by people in her community as a devoted mother and a woman who played an active role in her church and local sports.

She worked as a Bible studies teacher and was a volleyball coach and church mentor.

Abigail Hufford, a director at LifeWise Academy, previously described Ashley as having a “dynamic personality.”

Her daughters were reportedly devastated when they learned about their father’s alleged affair, according to testimony from Ashley’s sister.

The family tragedy has remained at the centre of the trial as prosecutors argue that Flynn’s relationship with Botner provides a possible motive for the killing.

Flynn’s American Idol past

Before the murder case, Flynn was known to television viewers as a contestant on the 12th season of American Idol.

During a 2013 interview connected to the show, he spoke about his faith and described his “very pretty wife” as one of the things that made him unique.

Years later, his marriage and family life became the focus of a criminal investigation after Ashley was found fatally shot inside their home.

Flynn initially claimed an intruder had entered the property and killed his wife. Investigators have disputed that account, with testimony indicating there were no clear signs of forced entry and that the crime scene appeared to have been staged.

Flynn has denied the charges against him and pleaded not guilty.

The allegations presented in court remain part of an ongoing criminal trial, and the jury has yet to determine whether Flynn is responsible for Ashley’s death.
