Princess Eugenie Makes Surprise Return to London Just Five Weeks After Welcoming Baby Daughter
Princess Eugenie has made her first public appearance in London since welcoming her third child, stepping out in Notting Hill just over five weeks after giving birth to her baby daughter in Portugal.
The 36-year-old royal was photographed chatting with friends on a pavement in west London on Monday, September 7, in a notably relaxed outfit. She wore a loose black T-shirt with sports leggings and trainers, while a brightly coloured coat was tied around her waist.
The low-key outing marked Eugenie’s return to Britain following the birth of Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank on August 3 at a hospital in Lisbon.
The arrival was announced by Buckingham Palace the following day. Adelaide was born at 6.20pm, weighing 6lb 9oz, with King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family said to be “delighted” by the news.
Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, also shared their happiness with followers on Instagram, announcing that they were “beyond in love” with their new daughter.
Adelaide joins two older brothers
Adelaide is the couple’s first daughter and their third child, joining five-year-old August Philip Hawke and three-year-old Ernest George Ronnie.
The newborn was added to the line of succession and is currently 15th in line to the British throne.
Her birth also marked a change for Eugenie and Jack, who had previously welcomed both of their sons at Portland Hospital in London. Adelaide was born in Lisbon, where the couple have spent part of their time since 2022.
Jack Brooksbank took up a role working for property businessman Mike Meldman that year, prompting the family to divide their lives between Portugal and the UK.
Eugenie previously spoke warmly about her life in Portugal on the Table Manners podcast in 2023, describing the country as “the dream” because she could go about her daily life without worrying about being recognised.
The family has continued to share glimpses of their life with Adelaide since her arrival. In August, Eugenie revealed the baby’s full name and explained that it was chosen in honour of people she and Jack “love and admire”, while also reflecting their connection to English and Portuguese history.
A growing family of five
The arrival of Adelaide has transformed the Brooksbanks into a family of five.
Eugenie later marked her daughter’s first four weeks with photographs shared on social media, including tender images of August and Ernest spending time with their baby sister.
Adelaide’s place in the succession also gives her a formal connection to the wider Royal Family, although she does not hold a royal title.
For Eugenie, meanwhile, her brief London appearance offered the first public glimpse of her since becoming a mother of three.

Eugenie’s return to Britain comes as her mother, Sarah Ferguson, has also been making plans to spend more time in the UK.
The former Duchess of York had been staying abroad for an extended period following renewed scrutiny surrounding her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and his past association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew has denied wrongdoing and has not been charged, while Ferguson herself has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Despite being overseas, Ferguson has remained in contact with both Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, particularly as she awaited the arrival of her newest grandchild.
She is understood to have been renting a six-bedroom property in the Home Counties for around £8,000 a month.
With Eugenie now back in London after the birth of Adelaide, the latest sighting places mother and daughter back in Britain at a significant moment for the family.
