Florida Mom Denies Disturbing Allegations Involving Family Dog as Friends Rally Behind Her With Legal Fundraiser

A Florida mother facing a criminal charge over alleged sexual contact with her family dog is denying the accusation, while friends say she was targeted by an estranged husband and have launched a fundraiser to help cover her mounting legal expenses.

Malia Nummerdor, 38, a mother of two from Punta Gorda, was arrested on Sept. 15 after her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, contacted authorities and provided investigators with recordings he said came from security cameras inside their home.

Malia has maintained that the allegations are untrue.

Friends Say Her Life Has Been “Turned Upside Down”

Days after the arrest, friends organized an online fundraiser for Malia and her two sons, saying the family had been displaced from their home and was facing significant legal costs.

The organizers stressed that the campaign was not intended to determine whether the allegations were true. Instead, they said they wanted Malia to have access to experienced legal representation while providing stability and privacy for her children.

They also claimed the situation involved Malia’s estranged husband and allegations she continues to dispute.

Despite the appeal, the fundraiser attracted little initial support, receiving only two donations totaling less than $20 within roughly a day of launching.

Husband Says Home Cameras Captured Evidence

According to the arrest report, Erik told the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office that he had installed two security cameras in the house because money had allegedly been disappearing from a coin jar.

He said everyone living in the home knew about the cameras.

While reviewing footage recorded by a camera in a bedroom, Erik claimed he discovered material that appeared to show Malia engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with the family dog, Ranger.

He subsequently provided investigators with the recording and access to the laptop containing it.

Authorities said the footage gave investigators evidence independent of Erik’s account, rather than leaving the case based solely on the estranged husband’s accusation.

Malia Gives Investigators a Different Explanation

Police interviewed Malia on Sept. 15. According to the arrest report, officers believed she appeared impaired and she acknowledged being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the interview.

When questioned about what appeared on the recording, Malia denied engaging in sexual activity with the animal.

Instead, she told investigators that she had been lying near the elderly dog’s bed and petting him.

Police said they pressed her for further clarification about her position and the dog’s location in the footage, but investigators described her explanation as inconsistent. Malia also pointed out that another dog had been present in the room.

Case Moves Into Legal Process

Malia was arrested and booked into the Charlotte County Jail on a charge of sexual contact with an animal. Records indicate she has since been released.

Her friends are now urging people not to reach conclusions before the allegations are tested through the legal process, while Malia continues to deny the accusation.

The case therefore centers on two sharply conflicting accounts: Malia’s insistence that the alleged conduct never occurred, and investigators’ assertion that the recording supplied by her estranged husband provides evidence beyond his accusation alone.
