A 33-year-old man abducted a teenage girl from a town centre before taking her to his home, where he sexually assaulted her and filmed the attack, a court heard.

Jay Savage was following the girl in Boston, Lincolnshire, on March 16 last year when he approached her and began talking to her at around 9.15pm.

Savage then demanded that she hand over her phone, claiming there was something he needed to access.

When she explained that the phone had run out of battery, he insisted on taking her to his home so she could use a charger.

The girl complied after feeling something sharp against her waist and fearing that Savage was holding a knife.

He made her walk with him across the town and gave her a can of beer before taking her inside a property.

Lincoln Crown Court heard that Savage then forcibly made the teenager perform a sexual act, which he recorded on his phone.

He later returned her to the town but kept her phone at his property.

The attack was reported to police shortly after midnight on March 17.

Victim’s memory helped police find the suspect

Despite the ordeal, the girl had carefully paid attention to the route Savage had taken to his home.

She was able to remember the journey and provide officers with information that helped them identify the property.

Savage was arrested at around 1.45am at an address in the town.

Following a six-day trial, he was found guilty of abducting and orally raping a teenage girl, as well as taking an indecent photograph of a child.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on Friday, November 27.

Police praise victim’s courage

DC Charlotte Howitt, the officer in charge of the investigation, praised the victim for her determination throughout the case.

“The resilience and bravery displayed by this young victim throughout an incredibly harrowing investigation and court process have been truly remarkable,” she said.

DC Howitt said the girl had placed her trust in the criminal justice system and continued with the case despite having to recount details of the traumatic incident on several occasions.

“She remained resolute throughout, and she should be incredibly proud of the strength she has shown,” she added.

The officer also praised the work of investigators involved in the case, saying the combination of the victim’s courage and the police investigation had resulted in Savage being held accountable.

“I hope this outcome gives the victim some measure of closure and demonstrates our commitment to pursuing offenders and supporting victims every step of the way,” DC Howitt said.
