Boy, 7, dies after being found hanging at home following conversation about a ‘cliff jumping’ game

A seven-year-old boy has tragically died after he was found unresponsive at his home in São Paulo, Brazil, shortly after speaking to his mother about a game involving “jumping from a cliff”.

Pietro had been playing at home with a nine-year-old female neighbour on September 7 when the devastating incident occurred.

His family now fears he may have been attempting to imitate something he had seen online, although investigators have so far found no evidence confirming that a video played any role in what happened.

According to his mother, 26-year-old Lorraynne dos Santos, Pietro had been playing with the girl between around 3pm and 4pm before she left and returned home.

The seven-year-old then approached his mother and asked for a snack.

During their brief conversation, Pietro mentioned a game involving “jumping from a cliff”.

Lorraynne later told police that she went into her bedroom shortly afterwards, believing there was nothing unusual about the comment.

Pietro remained in another room while his mother was on the phone.

But when she became concerned after noticing that her son had gone quiet, she went to check on him.

She found Pietro unresponsive and immediately called for an ambulance.

The boy was rushed to the São Mateus Emergency Care Unit, where doctors attempted to revive him.

Despite their efforts, Pietro tragically died in hospital on September 7.

His family has since raised the possibility that he may have been copying a video he had watched.

Pietro’s uncles told police they believed he could have been attempting to imitate footage of someone jumping from a cliff.

However, investigators have not found evidence so far that such a video prompted the incident.

The phone Pietro had been using was seized by police and is now being examined as investigators attempt to establish what content he may have watched before his death.

Police have also reported finding no signs of abuse or other injuries on the child.

Investigators also spoke with the mother of the nine-year-old girl who had been playing with Pietro that afternoon.

She told police that her daughter had gone to Pietro’s home without a mobile phone.

According to the girl, the two children had simply been playing normally and Pietro had not behaved unusually.

Forensic experts are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Pietro’s death as investigators work to establish exactly what happened during the crucial period after he spoke to his mother.

At this stage, authorities have not confirmed what caused the tragedy or whether online content played any part in it.
