Medical Emergency Suspected in Death of Long Island Teacher and Mother of Four After SUV Plunged Into Pool

New details have emerged about the death of Allison Rahmani, the 40-year-old Long Island teacher and mother of four whose SUV crashed into a swimming pool at her family’s Hewlett home.
Sources close to the investigation say police believe Rahmani may have suffered a medical emergency before losing control of the vehicle on Friday, Aug. 21. Investigators do not currently suspect foul play, though the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The crash unfolded at Rahmani’s home in Hewlett, Nassau County, when her vehicle left its path and ended up partially submerged in the backyard swimming pool.
Despite the severity of the situation, Rahmani was reportedly conscious long enough to call for help from inside the vehicle. Emergency crews responded and she was transported by ambulance, but she died before reaching the hospital.
A source familiar with the family separately told JNS that Rahmani did not drown, an important detail that shifted attention toward what may have happened immediately before the SUV entered the pool.
According to sources cited in the latest report, investigators now believe some type of medical episode may have caused Rahmani to lose control. The specific nature of that suspected medical emergency has not been publicly identified.
A respected educator and mother of four

Rahmani had recently celebrated her 40th birthday and worked as a teacher and math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway.
Her husband, Matthew Rahmani, serves as president of Irving Place Minyan, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Woodmere. The synagogue announced Allison’s death Friday afternoon.
News of her death prompted an outpouring of grief from people who knew her through the school and local Jewish community.
The timing added another painful dimension to the family’s loss. According to the latest report, Allison and Matthew had been scheduled to leave Sunday for a romantic trip to Paris — the same day her family and friends instead gathered for her funeral.
Husband pays emotional tribute at funeral
Rahmani was remembered Sunday at Boulevard-Riverside Chapels in Hewlett, where her husband joined relatives and members of the community in mourning her death.
During the service, Matthew honored his wife by reciting “Eshet Chayil,” or “Woman of Valor,” a traditional Jewish passage associated with honoring a wife.
Allison’s mother, Rachelle Rohde, also addressed mourners, describing the profound impact her daughter’s death has had on those closest to her.
“We are broken,” Rohde said. “We will never be the same.”
For the family, a weekend that was supposed to mark the beginning of a trip abroad instead became a farewell to a wife, daughter, mother and educator.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the crash. While the working belief is that a medical emergency preceded the accident, authorities have not publicly disclosed a specific medical cause, and the investigation remains ongoing.
