A vampire series that has viewers covering up their eyes is streaming on BBC iPlayer.

Interview with the Vampire charts the relationship between vampires Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt, and while it’s been popular with viewers, several have admitted that they find it a bit “gory”.

The TV series began in 2022, with Jacob Anderson taking on the role of vampire Louis and Sam Reid as Lestat, reports the Mirror.

There have now been three seasons which have kept fans gripped, although one confessed in a post on Reddit: “I do find it gory… I cover my eyes for most of the gory scenes.”

“Honestly I didn’t watch this for the longest time because I was worried about it being too scary… It’s more psychological horror,” said someone else.

“I think I had to close my eyes for like one church scene in season one and the rest was good.” Another viewer advised: “If you’re super sensitive to gore I would probably not recommend watching!”

Referring to a particular moment, somebody else commented: “My worst scene (still magnificently done, but I have trouble looking at the screen) are Lestat dragging Louis by his throat and Louis ripping the jaw off that one guy.”

The cast of the series also includes Eric Bogosian, Bailey Bass, Assad Zaman and Jennifer Ehle, who takes on the role of Gabriella de Lioncourt, Lestat’s mother.

Joseph Potter appears as a former associate of Lestat, while Kalyne Coleman is among the line-up as Grace de Pointe du Lac Freniere, who is Louis’ sister who has recently married.

The story was based on The Vampire Chronicles books by author Anne Rice. It was previously adapted for the big screen in 1994, when a movie starring Hollywood heavyweights such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst was released. Tom starred as Lestat in the film, while Brad played Louis.

 

 

Kirsten was just 11 when she filmed the role of Claudia, the child vampire who is a surrogate daughter to Louis and Lestat, and the movie proved to be her big break.
