A powerful Second World War drama has captivated viewers globally and is essential viewing for lovers of historical cinema, following superior to Dunkirk, including one dubbed superior to Dunkirk, reports the Express.
Released in 2008, the picture garnered critical acclaim, award nominations and recognition for its lead performer.
Film enthusiasts have lavished praise on the movie via IMDb, with numerous viewers awarding it perfect 10/10 scores.
One viewer described the film as a “brilliant, sexually charged, and oddly heartbreaking tale about the complexity of human morality” in their highly-rated assessment.

Holocaust drama The Reader chronicled a relationship between 15 year old Michael Berg (portrayed by David Kross) and older woman Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet). The story alternated between Michael as an adult (Ralph Fiennes), who becomes a lawyer and is shocked to find Hanna standing trial for Nazi war crimes, and their earlier relationship when he was a teenager.
The Reader was based on Bernhard Schlink’s 1995 German novel Der Vorleser.

Directed by Stephen Daldry, known for Billy Elliot and The Hours, with a script by renowned playwright David Hare, The Reader received multiple Oscar nominations.
The film earned Winslet her first Academy Award after five previous nominations for Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Little Children.
Many viewers have praised Winslet’s portrayal in The Reader, with one fan observing: “Kate Winslet is just outstanding in this very interesting film that is almost two stories-in-one.”
